Part of the program for this month's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este will be the biennial RM Sotheby's Villa Erba sale. Among the very high quality lots consigned are several of the finest 1980s supercars. One of our favourites of these is this Lancia Delta S4 Stradale. As the name suggests, this is the road-going version of the mighty Group B rally car. Detuned only slightly, the fully road legal machine boasts all-wheel drive and a beautiful engine that combines a supercharger and a turbo. Having covered just 1,600 km from new, this S4 is estimate to sell for around Euro 500,000.
Also originally designed for Group B and accordingly featuring all-wheel drive was the Porsche 959. The consigned example was delivered new to France but has spent its most recent years in Italy. RM Sotheby's estimate, chassis '900199' to find a new owner for around Euro 1 million.
Of a slightly later vintage but also evolved from a Group B design was the Ferrari F40. This twin-turbo machine was introduced 30 years ago to celebrate the Italian manufacturer's 40th anniversary. The consigned example has had just one registered, German owner, who covered less than 20,000 km during the last 27 years.
