Following up on Fernando Alonso's popular Indy 500 outing last year and to popular demand, McLaren have picked the classic 'Papaya Orange' livery for their new MCL33 Formula 1 car. While visually very appealing, the more significant change for the new season is the swap of the troublesome Honda engine for a Renault power unit. After some disappointing years, McLaren have a lot riding on the MCL33 Renault and will no longer be able to hide behind the engine issues that plagued the team during the last three seasons. To put the 'new' McLaren livery in perspective, we have also taken a renewed look at the McLaren M20 from the ROFGO Collection. It is the last of the works McLaren Can-Am cars and combines current orange with blue accents livery.
Current World Champions Mercedes-Benz revealed their new challenger, the W09 EQ-Power+ at a filming day yesterday. According to the German team, the car represents an improvement of last years car, which, despite its success, Mercedes-Benz described as a 'diva' for its unpredictable behaviour at times.
Undoubtedly, the biggest rival for the defending champions will be the Ferrari SF71H, which was also revealed yesterday afternoon. Like its main rival, it represents an evolution of last year's design and boasts even more extreme versions of the much copied compact side-pods.
All new Formula 1 cars will hit the track on Monday at Barcelona during the first official test of the season.
