2005-02-27: Geneva Motorshow Preview
Mass production and speciality manufacturers annually gather on the shores of Lake Geneva for the
Geneva Motorshow. Traditionally this Swiss motorshow hosts the introduction of many one-off concept cars
and high end sportscars. This year's event will open for the public this Thursday and judging from the
cars featured in this preview, the 75th edition will emphasize this tradition.
We will be attending the press preview days before the show opens and a full report and pictorial impression will be published later this week. |
2005-02-23: 2005 Palm Beach International, A Concours d'Elegance review
As if the five days of the annual Cavallino Classic were not enough to please the automotive enthusiasts,
a brand new event was added to the 'Cavallino Classic weekend' for 2005; the Palm Beach International, A Concours d'Elegance.
The focus was not only on Ferrari and Ferrari related vehicles. The Italian thoroughbreds were
joined on the Palm Beach Polo Club grounds by a selection of international vehicles. Palm Beach's
main claim to fame in the automotive industry was housing the Cunningham racing team in the 1950s,
so it was only fitting that Cunningham was the Concours' featured marque. Five Cunningham related
vehicles were on display, including the Cadillac 'Le Monstre' and the very successful Cunningham
C-4R. Porsche was also very well represented by a number of rare road and racing cars, including
a 917/10k and 935.
Despite the busy schedule of the preceeding days, we were on the grounds at 7 am to capture the many great vehicles on display. We have compiled a complete report and thanks to the perfect setup of the cars a stunning 125-shot slideshow. |

2005-02-21: First 911, Split Window Corvette, Super Zonda, chopped Gallardo and more ...
Next week, the doors will open for the 75th Geneva Motorshow and building up to the spectacular event, new releases are
announced every day. Italy's supercar manufacturers will be prominently present with stunning releases.
Today we take a look at two wild wheels from the home of the supercars; the
Lamborghini Concept S and
Pagani Zonda F.
We will be in Geneva to to digitally capture all the unveilings and an indepth report will be
published on Wednesday.
Two of the automotive industry's biggest icons were launched in 1963; the first Porsche 911 and the second generation Corvette. Porsche originally intended the new car to be called 901, but legal problems forced them to change the name to 911 after nearly 100 cars were constructed. This week we take a look at one of those rare Porsche 901s, which is owned and restored by Alois Ruf. The shape of the Chevrolet Corvette 'Split Window', launched in 1963, would influence the design of all future Corvettes. The pictured example is in stunning original condition and seen in General Motors' new Heritage Center. |
2005-02-17: 2005 Retromobile Paris review
Retromobile Paris is the annual highlight of the indoor classic car shows featuring displays of
various manufacturers, clubs and other 'automotive related' businesses. With carefully selected
exhibitors filling a relatively small space, the event has grown a strong reputation for
its high quality. Although this year's event was held in a slightly larger hall, it did not
lose any of its edge; the extra space was used to increase the size of displays and aisles.
This year's theme was 'Prototypes of yesterday, Automobiles of tomorrow' in which eight avant-garde prototypes of the 1940s and 1950s took centre stage. Many of the 'sub-themes' were celebrations of model anniversaries; most important of these was the Citroen DS' fiftieth anniversary. A perfect adaptation of the Retromobile principles was the Lancia/Fiat/Alfa Romeo stand which featured just six cars, but all of the highest provenance. Christie's held their annual auction in which the ground breaking Maserati Boomerang sold for over $1 million US. As usual our photographic team visited the show and we are proud to present full coverage for the third year running. It includes a report of all highlights and a 100 shot slideshow. |

2005-02-14: F430 Spider, first Iso/Bizzarini racer, Lancia D50 and more ...
Following the lauch of the F430 Berlinetta last fall, Ferrari will take the wraps of the new
F430 Spider at
the upcoming Geneva Motorshow. Also present in Geneva will be the
Dodge Caliber,
aimed at the global car market.
In this week's update we take a look at two racing cars designed by two of Italy's most talented engineers of the 20th century. First up is Vittorio Jano's Lancia D50, which was one of the most innovative Formula 1 racers of the 1950s. After working for Ferrari and Lamborghini Giotto Bizzarini designed the Iso Grifo A3/C. The featured example is the very first car of this type to be raced. Italy is best known today for their sporty cars, but there was a time when the country produced one of the most expensive luxury cars in the world, the Isotta Fraschini, of which the ex-New York motorshow 8A Castagna Roadster is featured. Both the Lancia and Isotta Fraschini are pictured at the Retromobile show in Paris, which opened its doors last Friday. A full report of this, the leading indoor classic car show, will be published later this week. |
2005-02-09: Ferrari Four, Alfa Brera, GT40 Mk III, New Charger Daytona and more ...
Although Ferrari is best and typically known for their V12 engined cars, the Italian company produced
a number of highly successful four cylinder racers in the 1950s. After two Formula 1 championships
and a large number of sportscar wins, the last four cylinder Ferrari was built in 1957. Dubbed the
500 TRC,
it is often described by the experts as one of the most beautiful sports racers ever constructed.
Hopefully our
18-shot gallery and feature
does this brilliant little machine justice.
Giorgietto Giugiaro was named designer of the 20th century, but his latest creation, the
Alfa Romeo Brera
shows that the old master is still in his best form.
Muscle cars are back! After generations of sensible front wheel drive American sedans, the last couple of years saw a turn around back to rumbling V8s and rear wheel drive. The latest of these new muscle cars are the Cadillac STS-V and Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. Fortunately for Ford their recent GT supercar was more successful than the original Ford GT40 road car; the GT40 Mk III, of which only seven examples were constructed. |

2005-02-07: 2005 Cavallino Classic review
Two big events were held in Palm Beach, Florida on the weekend of January 22nd; Donald Trump's wedding
and the fourteenth Cavallino Classic. Our photographic team was on site to cover the
latter. The annual celebration of Ferrari is made up of a number of events. The most prominent
of these are the track days on the Moroso track and the Concours d'Elegance on the lawns of the
exclusive Breakers resort in Palm Beach. This offers a great mix with full blown historic racers
on the track on Thursday and Friday and high polished show cars on display on Saturday.
We visited both events and have compiled a full report and a 100-shot slideshow for each event.
So sit back and enjoy the full report and two 100-shot slideshow of the Cavallino Classic. |
