2018-01-31: All new Lister Thunder and Storm GT racer ...
Lister Thunder The recently revived Lister Motor Company have just revealed the first details of the all-new Thunder sports car. Strictly limited to 99 examples, the fastest road-going Lister is based on the highly acclaimed Jaguar F-Type. Lister engineers have enhanced the exterior and tuned the supercharged V8 to produce a staggering 666 bhp. The tuned engine allows the Thunder to accelerate to 60 mph in just over three seconds and on to a 208 mph top speed. The new Lister will be unveiled at the Historic Motorsport International in London next month and is priced at GBP 139,950.
In its previous guise, Lister also made road going sports cars like the Jaguar V12-engined Storm. Of the Storm, Lister also produced a GT1 racing car. From the late 1990s, this striking machine was raced with considerable success in the FIA GT Championship and the British GT Championship. The chassis featured today was used by David Warnock and Mike Jordan to win the 2001 British GT Championship.
Hopefully, Lister will honour the company's rich racing history and also produce a competition version of the new Thunder.
  2018-01-29: Great Italian-American joint ventures ...
Bizzarrini BZ-2001 Over the years, American and Italian engineers have collaborated to create some truly great machines. Today we have highlighted three distinct and interesting examples. Rarest of the bunch is the unique Bizzarrini BZ-2001 built in 1993. It was the brainchild of American collector Barry Watkins, who collaborated with the great Italian engineer Giotto Bizzarrini. They had aimed to develop a production version but ultimately poor economic conditions and a lack of funding ended the project after just this Ferrari Testarossa-based prototype was constructed.
Among Bizzarrini's much better known creations is the Iso Grifo A3/C, which combines an Italian body and underpinnings with a small-block Chevrolet V8. The featured example is one of the very early examples and was acquired new by the 'Elvis Presley of France' Johnny Hallyday. Later part of the Loheac museum collection for two decades, chassis B 0209 has now been consigned to the RM Sotheby's Paris Sale with an estimate of Euro 2.5-3 million.
Also favoured by the stars was the Ghia L6.4. The luxurious two-door coupe combined American underpinnings with a Ghia-designed and built bodywork. Just over two dozen were built and they were particularly popular with members of the 'Rat Pack' like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Both of the L6.4s featured were at one point owned by Rat Pack members and feature custom touches made by the legendary George Barris.
Over the weekend another American / Italian collaboration won the Daytona 24 Hours, covering a record distance. The Cadillac DPi-V.R used by the Action Express Racing team to win the race features an Italian Dallara chassis with custom bodywork and and 5.5-litre American V8.
2018-01-26: Superb silhouette racers from Ferrari and Porsche and Senna's McLaren headed for auction ...
Porsche 935 J International sports car racing starts in earnest this weekend with the Daytona 24 Hours. This prompted us to take a look back at a time when very wild silhouette racers dominated in the banked corners of the famous Speedway. An outright winner from this period was the mighty Porsche 935 J. Like the better known Kremer 935 K3, this 935 was built by a customer team; Joest Racing in this case. They used modified Porsche supplied shells and a proprietary air-to-air intercooler setup. Successful on both sides of the Atlantic, the 935 J also won the Sebring 12 Hours. Our detailed feature includes three different examples we have shot over the last few years.
One of the 935's early rivals was the Ferrari 512 BB LM. The chassis highlighted today was raced at Daytona three times but with limited success. Still in highly original condition, '34445' is today part of a formidable German collection.
Earlier this week, British auctioneer announced that they have consigned the very McLaren MP4/8 Ford that was driven to victory in the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix for their upcoming Monaco sale. This win was the late Senna's record breaking sixth and fifth consecutive victory in the principality. Now part of a formidable collection, MP4-8A-6 should fetch a pretty penny.
McLaren's bespoke department MSO have produced a limited run of the MSO X for the Newport Beach dealership. Finished in iconic liveries, the full road legal machines are inspired by the GT4 racing version of the 570S. Just ten examples of the MSO X have been built.
2018-01-24: Maserati and Bugatti supercars up for auction and new Range Rover SV Coupe ...
Maserati MC12 Stradale Next month's RM Sotheby's Paris sale will be of particular interest for supercar enthusiasts. Among the high performance machines due to cross the block is this early Maserati MC12. Delivered on January 3rd, 2005, the consigned example was one of the first built. Now in German ownership and with 12,000 km on the odometer, the MC12 is estimated to sell for Euro 2 - 2.5 million.
Of an earlier generation is this Bugatti EB 110 SS, which was one of the pre-production prototypes. Initially fitted with rear-wheel drive only for testing purposes, it was later fitted with all-wheel drive and the very SS engine used for a top speed record effort in an earlier prototype. Owned for many years by a Dutch enthusiast, chassis 39006 has now been consigned by its British owner.
Virtually brand new is another Bugatti consigned; this Chiron. Delivered in April of 2017, this car was among the first 20 Chirons delivered. With barely 1,000 km on the odometer, this Chiron has a pre-sale estimate of Euro 3.2 - 3.5 million.
Ahead of the official launch at the Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover revealed the first glimpse of the Range Rover SV Coupe. This highly exclusive, range-topping machine will be limited to just 999 example.
2018-01-22: Lovely Lamborghinis headed for Bonhams auction in Paris and Scottsdale results ...
Lamborghini Miura P400 SV There is barely time to process the results of the Scottsdale auctions as all eyes are already on the sales due to be staged in Paris during the Retromobile week. Certainly boasting the most dramatic setting is Bonhams, who have consigned four fabulous Lamborghinis for their Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais sale. Each represents a different era in the Italian manufacturer's fabled history.
The earliest of the quartet is this 400 GT 2+2 of 1966. The car on offer was originally delivered to California but has more recently been the prized possession of the president of the Dutch Lamborghini Club. Chassis 0757 is estimated to sell for just over Euro 500,000.
The most sought after of the four is undoubtedly the Miura P400 S in the sale. This car has an interesting history and was owned for over a decade by the Schlumpf Museum. The Miura has had only four known owners from new and it will take a pretty penny to become the fifth.
With the Countach the flowing lines of the 1960s were abruptly abandoned. While later models featured wild bodykits complete with flared wheel arches and massive wings this very early example boasts the original and very clean design. With an estimate of Euro 600,000 - 800,000, it looks like very good value.
During the 1990s, Lamborghini quickly evolved and started producing slightly more user friendly machines with the introduction of all-wheel drive and basic amenities like power steering. These were introduced on the Diablo VT of which a Roadster version will cross the block in Paris.
Speaking of the Scottsdale auctions, we have now also added the final results of the RM Sotheby's and Gooding sales. The most valuable car to change hands was the unique Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale at just over $8 million.
2018-01-19: A tribute to the great Dan Gurney and Bonhams' Scottsdale result ...
Eagle Mark 1 Weslake Earlier this week, the very sad news reached us that Dan Gurney, one of motorsport's all time greats and a true hero, has passed away. His achievements are too many to list but he was the first driver to win Grands Prix for Porsche, Brabham and his own Eagle but also won Le Mans for Ford, introduced the spraying of champagne after that victory but also has an aerodynamic device named after him and his Eagles dominated single seater and sports car racing in the United States. For today's tribute, we have selected to highlight just a few of the many highlights in the 'Big Eagle's' career.
Arguably, Gurney's most famous creation is this achingly beautiful Eagle Mark 1 Weslake. He used this very car to become the second driver to win a Grand Prix in a car of his own creation by clinching victory in the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix. Beautifully preserved and 'on the button', the Mark 1 is today on display at the Revs Institute in Naples, Florida but is also shown and demonstrated at select events.
Far more actively campaigned is this Brabham BT7 Climax in which Gurney won the 1964 French Grand Prix, scoring the marque's very first Grand Prix victory. Later in the year, he also won at Mexico in this car. Today, chassis F1-1-63 is owned by an American historic racer, who was actually at Reims in 1964 to witness the historic victory and continues to race this fabulous Brabham with great success in historic events.
From the 1970s, Gurney focused on designing and constructing racing cars. Among the very best of these was the Eagle 7200 Offenhauser built for the 1972 Indy season. Blisteringly fast, it was used by Bobby Unser to smash the track record at Indy in 1972 and later that year set a new closed-course lap record. In 1973 this Gulf-liveried and privately entered example was driven to victory in the 1973 Indy 500 Gordon Johncock.
Last night, the Scottsdale auction kicked off and today we can publish the results of the $25 million Bonhams sale, which was topped by this Porsche 550A RS Spyder, which found a new owner for just over $5 million.
2018-01-17: Great Shelby cars headed for auction and NAIAS round-up ...
AC Shelby Cobra S/C At this weekend's Scottsdale auctions several great Shelby cars will cross the block. Among them was this AC Shelby Cobra 427 S/C, which has been consigned to the RM Sotheby's sale. It is one of just 29 built to competition specification but then converted to road, or Semi Competition specification. Meticulously restored, this Cobra 427 S/C was longtime shown in the Australian York Motor Museum and is now estimated to sell for $2-2.4 million.
Also available in this same sale is the equally rare Shelby Mustang GT350 R, which was originally part of the famous Cobra Caravan. Later sold to Peru, SFM5R213 was recently restored to award winning level. Its pre-sale estimate is $1-1.2 million.
Rival Bonhams have consigned an example of the legendary GT350 H 'Rent-a-Racer'. The example on offer on Thursday was owned for many years by the late Carroll Shelby himself and has no reserve.
On Monday, the North American International Auto Show opened its doors. In addition to the world debuts several show cars, the show also featured the introduction of a new straight-six Mercedes-AMG engine. Equipped with a sophisticated turbo, the three-litre engine produces 435 hp. At its debut, it will be available in the E 53 Coupe, E 53 Cabriolet and CLS 53. Hyundai, meanwhile, revealed a new generation Veloster and also announced that the high performance Veloster N will be available in North America for the first time.
2018-01-15: 2018 Interclassics Maastricht report and gallery, and new Mustang Bullitt ...
2018 Interclassics Maastricht report and gallery This weekend, the MECC exhibition centre in Maastricht, The Netherlands hosted the 25th annual Interclassics Maastricht. To mark the anniversary, the event invited eighteen 'master pieces' that represented the eighteen central themes of the previous editions. Among the cars displayed in the special feature were the 1957 Le Mans winning Jaguar D-Type, the Ford Mustang Eleanor from the movie Gone in sixty seconds and a pair of 8V Fiats. Among the additional highlights were rare 1990s supercars like the one-off Bizzarrini BZ-2001 and the freshly restored ex-works Austin Healey Sebring Sprite built for the 1959 Rally Monte Carlo. We were on the show floor on the opening day and have captured all the highlights in this 110-shot gallery, which serves to illustrate our concise report.
On the eve of this week's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford have revealed an all new Bullitt version of the Mustang. This special edition marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary movie Bullitt that starred the late Steve McQueen in a green fastback Mustang. Unveiled by his granddaughter, the new 475bhp Bullitt was shown alongside one of the two original Mustang fastbacks that was used in the movie. It had disappeared from the limelight in the early 1970s only to resurface in the hands of the same family that bought it in the early 1970s. Reportedly, they resisted several offers from Steve McQueen himself to acquire the car shortly after acquiring it in 1974.
2018-01-12: Wild Toyota concept, new Bentley, Lotus and Renault, and new Ginetta LMP1 car ...
Toyota GR Super Sport Concept This morning, Toyota revealed the highly anticipated GR Super Sport Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The striking machine provides a unique insight what a road legal version of the successful TS050 LMP1 would look like. Accordingly, the GR Super Sport features the same 1,000hp hybrid drivetrain.
Bentley have expanded the Bentayga line-up with this 'entry-level' V8 version. It uses the familiar twin-turbo V8, which produces 542bhp in this application. Optional on the Bentayga V8 are carbon-ceramic discs with ten-piston front calipers.
Going into their 70th year, Lotus have created another derivative of the Evora in the guise of this GT410 Sport, which replaces the Sport 410 introduced in 2016. Compared to the outgoing model, the GT410 Sport is slightly lighter but uses the same spec engine.
Also new for 2018 is this Renault Clio R.S.18, which is inspired by Renault's upcoming Formula 1 car.
At this weekend's Autosport International, Ginetta took the wraps off the G60-LT-P1 LMP1 car. Due to be raced in the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship by several teams. The G60-LT-P1 development car features a 3.4-litre twin-turbo, Mecachrome V6 but there are other engine options.
2018-01-10: Lovely Fiat 8V, striking Delage, last PF Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Cabriolet and an electric sports car ...
Fiat 8V Vignale Coupe The year has barely started and we will already attend our first show tomorrow; the annual Interclassics in Maastricht, The Netherlands. It is the most highly anticipated shows of its kind in the Benelux and accordingly it is fitting that this Fiat 8V Vignale Coupe will be one of the cars on display this year as it is currently owned by a Belgian collector and was recently comprehensively restored by Dutch specialists Strada e Corsa. A veteran of the 1955 Mille Miglia, we have captured the rare 8V at Pebble Beach and Villa d'Este.
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Pinin Farina Cabriolet featured today has also been shown at these great events recently. It is the very last of the 6C 2500s fitted with the top-of-the-line Pinin Farina Cabriolet bodywork. Still in stellar condition, the Alfa Romeo has been consigned to next week's Bonhams Scottsdale Auction with a pre-sale estimate of $650,000 - $850,000.
A veteran of the most recent Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is this Delage D8 S Fernandez & Darrin Cabriolet. It is believed to be one of just two Delage D8s with this particular bodywork and was originally delivered to a British owner. Freshly restored, its crowning feature is a particularly striking Lalique mascot on the radiator.
Dubai-based sports car builder Jannarelly has ventured into the electric car market with this Design-X1. It was built for a customer in California and is a derivative of the original Design-1. Technical details of the Design-X1 have yet to be released but the company states that it can build up to 11 examples for a price point of $200,000 - $300,000 each.
2018-01-08: Fabulous Ferrari, Jaguar and Bugatti headline Gooding Scottsdale Auctions ...
Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale The year has only just started but the first major auctions, held in the the Phoenix suburb of Scotssdale, are already less than a fortnight away. Among them is the Gooding & Co. Scottsdale Auctions, which is headlined by a fabulous examples from Ferrari, Jaguar and Bugatti.
We were particularly taken by this unique Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale that has not been seen in public for many, many years. Using the second 275 GTB chassis, it was built by Pininfarina for Battista Pininfarina himself. Not only is chassis 06437 the only 275 GTB bodied by Pininfarina instead of Scaglietti, it also features many unique design cues from the bespoke grille to the diffusor on the rear end. Part of the same collection for 25 years, it is now estimated to sell for $8 - $10 million.
Estimated to sell for even more is this Jaguar D-Type. The car on offer was originally painted red to help Jaguar break into the Italian market but instead it entered the British trade with the first owner being none other than Bernie Ecclestone, who was a wheeler dealer at the time. Chassis XKD 518 was then raced extensively but has never been involved in a major accident and retains its major components. Offered from an American collection, this lovely D-Type should fetch in excess of $10 million when it crosses the block next week.
Also consigned to the sale is this, the very first Bugatti Type 55 Roadster. Originally shown at the 1931 Paris Auto Salon, it was part of the formidable collection of the later Peter Williamson for over four decades and was his favourite Bugatti to drive on the road. Since it was sold from his estate in 2008, chassis 55201 has been restored and was returned to its original configuration.
2018-01-03: Carbon fibre Porsche 962, new Peugeot racer and Infiniti concept ...
Porsche 962 TS We kick off the new year with wishing you all the best and a look at a very rare Porsche 962 derivative. Dubbed the 962 TS, it was built for Team Schuppan with a carbon-fibre composite tub by Advanced Composites. Three were built and raced with limited success during the early 1990s. The featured example was the second of the three and was restored recently by Canepa Motorsport and first raced at last year's Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
It was recently announced that the two major touring car championships; the WTCC and TCR will merge starting this year to form the WTCR. This has prompted manufacturers to develop new cars to the TCR regulations. One of these is the Peugeot 308 TCR, which was announced today and will debut at the coming Geneva Motor Show. It is loosely based on the Peugeot 308 Cup car and features a 350 bhp version of Peugeot's familiar 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. The 308 TCR also features the flared body the TCR spec cars are so well known and loved for.
At next week's North American International Auto Show, Japanese luxury manufacturer will debut this Q Inspiration Concept. The large sedan features a new design language that will be used for a similar production car that should arrive in the near future.
