I was going to say, with that weather the Delta stood a good chance.
Not so, I guess... :p
The driver of that Fiat was either very brave or insane... :p
A little update on my precious..
After season ended last year I started to look over her to find out what had to be done with her.. There was some visible rust bubbles and other things that i felt that had to be sorted out. I started the search for some professional help on rust welding, since the problems was quite big in both sills and fender bottoms.
After overseeing some major rust welding jobs done by so called "professionals" locally i was mildly disturbed by the lack of good work, for a lot of money. I ended up with contacting one of the better in Europe on the matter of the subject and the specific car type, the 105-series Alfa. It started out first as "what to do with this" questioning, and it ended up with my decision to bring the car to the guy and make him do a full restoration of the car. Since the specific cars are popular in the classic car market, they are worth the restoration you put down in them. So I went to Netherlands in Nowember 2007 to let him do the works this winter. Since the car is now finished and ready to be picked up I thought it would be nice to put a little update in, with some following pictures from the process.
First with some photos from my trip down. Normal nice weather of Norway of course.. The first snow had to come the night before i was going on the road with the trailer of course... Last picture of two Donkevoort owners who I met on the ferry, they where quite upset with the weather to of course..
After I had come down, and me and the restorer had looked over the car, we found out that it was more problems with rust than first thought and it was looking more and more like a pretty heavy project.
Following some nice pictures of cut out parts and rusty door sills.
The whole front subframe and inner fenders with suspension mounting was replaced with a subframe from a donor car.
More rust....
Big parts of the floors where also replaced.
Here you can also see that the new inner sill has been replaced.
The front strengthening beam was also replaced with a rigid 25x25mm steel rod.
More pictures of the completed door sills. And completed fender bottoms.
First pictures is of the nice strengthening of the jacking points, and the complete new door sill.
A lot of strengthening was done to the new front suspension and inner fenders.
Mostly needed for a racecar.
This is the last of the construction pictures.
Her you can clearly see the subframe exchange.
Now over to the cosmetic restoration that was done.
The car have as known lived a long life on the racetrack and bare it's patina.
Patina is nice also, but when all this work was started, a cosmetic restoration was in my dreams also. I have always been very fund of the 1300 GTA Junior body, and the restorer have done a couple of replica ones. He had everything lying on shelf for a GTA look restoration. You can also see that the front plate below the grill was corrected to have the right GTA look.
The wide fenders was correctly fitted to be taken off before going to the painter. Here you can see the car coming back from the painter, sporting some brilliant wheels. Couldn't afford those unfortunately. The white with red nose color scheme was to close to my heart to let it go for something else.
Some pictures of the complete painted indoor and new dashboard, correct GTA door handles was also fitted of course.
