Matra Murena
Matra Murena.
After the 530 and the Bagheera the Murena, presented in 1980, was Matra’s last and probably least extravagant sportscar. It kept up with the Bagheera tradition and had three seats in front, a normal one for the driver and two “75%” things for the passengers.
Propulsion was by a 1.6 litre Simca engine or the 2.2 litre that also found its way into the Talbot Tagora. With the 2.2 litre in the S version the car had 142 BHP and could reach 210 kph.
The chassis had also changed as now coil springs were applied rather than torsion bars.
Production stopped in 1983 after 10,680 cars left the factory.
Shown is a lone Murena at the Techno Classica in Essen in 2004.

Feel free to post it here, because that is what I am looking for. I am now going through my 2004 pics, so there may be more that you have seen there. (The Bristol, The HRG, the A112 and many BMWs)

A bit of a bump on this thread, but I only came across this car because the car from the TV show Inspector Gadget is based on this car.
Another bit of a side note- how many other cars besides this Matra and the McLaren F1 had 3 seats?

In the front row, or as in a three seater?
Cars like the Fiat Multipla and the Honda FR-V had three seats in the front row.

Yeah, but I was thinking more along coupes and sports cars. If you wanted to fit people, land barges like the Chevy Caprice would have probably been able to fit 3-4 people on that front bench. :D
The third seat in the Murena barely counts though, unless you plan on seating children or midgets. I think only the McLaren pulls this off the best- 3 people can comfortably sit in there.

Bagheera preceded the Murena in the Matra family with three seats.
I can assure you you CAN fit three full adults into those three seats.
Just climbing into the middle near-bucket seat is a challenge and NOT for the ladies :)
Never heard any suggestion the gadgetmobile was based on Murena ! You got a source ?
Best I remember was more like the Lancia Beta Coupe/Monte Carlo

I thought you'd chime in eventually! Man, Matra made some weird cars.
Haha, the center seat was not for the ladies either with the McLaren.
My source was Wikipedia unfortunately.

Honestly, it could be any coupe with louvres.
I agree, it could be the Lancia Beta/Monte Carlo/Scorpion too.

yeah wiki :)
A more plausible option would be an early Toyota Supra as the animation was drawn in Tokyo studio !!

The Inspecter Gadget wiki agrees.
