I thought it had already been killed, along with the MR2?

i would never say never, as theres always a chance for revival later on. But yeah they are leaving for now anyway at the end of 2005. these are from road and track:

Toyota Celica
The name may hark back to the 1970s but this is the last year for the Celica lineup. With only 140 bhp the base model isn’t as much fun as a GT-S model, which comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and 40 extra horsepower. Being front-wheel drive is a letdown, but the high-revving 1.8-liter with its VVTL-i system in the GT-S has a turbolike rush that keeps the driver entertained, if not going especially fast.
Toyota MR2 Spyder
Like the Celica, the MR2 is in its last year of production. The mid-engine 2-seater is a wonderful little convertible to zip around in and rivals the Mazda Miata for fun and cuteness. It’s the only rear-wheel-drive Toyota sports car offered. Too bad it has a tiny storage area and lacks the VVTL-i engine. It is the most affordable mid-engine car available and comes with an optional sequential-shifted manual transmission — we’ll miss it.

by the way, mxpx those numbers seem a little too liberal

its the same with honda killing off the integra. sports coupes are no longer desirable everyone wants suv's

Celicas are done for after 2005, hate to say it. my bro has a 2003 and i don't see what the problem is. if its no one in the states buying it then i can see that. but over all they are a good car. the regular ones suck, if you get a celica, get a GT-S w/ an action package.

Celicas are one of the best selling small sporty coupes here in New Zealand. Killing them is a stupid move.
-
the celica is a sporty and stylish coupe so it will probably be one of the bestselling budget coupes

I wonder if the celica is going to be one of those long lasting imports that people well be buying selling and moding for years, like the supra or RX7. (It is a relitive to the supra afterall)
why kill it? dono. The best reason ive heard was C-Ms, its all about americans and SUVs...
I loved the celica, even if it was a hair dresser's car (:p)

i agree i think there is no point in taking out the celica. It really is a great car. It;s cool because toyota have been doing cool things to them through the years. The old ones arn't that bad
