Either a 2003 Corvette Lingenfelter Stage 4, or a 1967 Corvette 427. Both the same day, last year at Corvettes at Carlisle. The 67 could be heard across the fairgrounds, which are probably a half to 3/4 mile wide...
I love the sound of the Ferrari F355.
Matra 670.
3litres of V12 screaming and SCREAMING !! In Le Mans and F1
Closest anyone can get now is when it's taken out for demonstrations.
But they don't red-line these - shame :_
Still can be enjoyed at www.bad-boy.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/sounds/1971 Matra V12.wav
Metro 6R4, although my Libra sounds nice at high revs.
Useless fact of the day: An Alfa Romeo engine when at high revs sounds much unlike a Ferrari when it screams.
360 Challenge Stradale. Just a great sounding engine inside that machine.
Not to long ago I heard a Vanquish starting and driving away from very close. It was such an AWESOME sound....

'nuff said, that is the best way to sum it up.
Good on you :D

the 355 is a great sounding car, almost sounds like a toyota atlantic race car.
20B three rotor....whEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
a 575m/550 maranello is the best imo
btw i heard the 360 CS has a very loud engine..

i like that matra engine a lot, it sounds so pure.
i also like the weird engines like the AC Propulsion Tzero which has an electric engine and it sound neat when it accelerates hard, and i also love the sound of the RX-7s.

Definitely the F50. And if the cats and mufflers are removed- ohh baby. You'll think theres an F1 car behind you :D

Hate to be rude, but it's an electric "motor" ;)
No such thing as an electric engine. An engine is defined as a device for changing fuel energy into mechanical energy.
Thanks for the link. :)
my favourite would have to be the BOSS 5.4L Ford V8 used in the XR8 and GT......
www.ford.com.au/falcon/mainFlash/
theres a link off that where you can here the sound of the XR8 engine revving through the revrange, but it isnt always there as it goes through a cycle
if that link doesnt work just go to www.ford.com.au and follow the links to the falcon down the bottom
hmm, personally, i've always been fond of the noise aston martins make.
the vanquish sounds good but that's just a trick exhaust.
anyone heard the thrum/throb of an amv8 lagonda?
lovely, deep and bassy.
Ferrari F1 V12 .. starting with the one on the 312F1 from 1966 'till the 412 ones .. :)
for regular cars .. aka .. normal cars .. not supercars .. modified .. racing ... it's the Alfa Romeo V6 engines
Anything with a Mopar Street Hemi

Awesome sounding engine, thanks for posting the link. I don't know much about Matra's, but you're talk of them sparks interest in learning more of them. Do you know of any published literature about Matra's?
The only real decent cars you ever hear in New Zealand are just Falcon XR8's and Commodore SS's, unless you live in Auckland or Wellington. Personally, I love the sound of the old Windsor v8 they used to have in the Falcons, although I've heard an old Pontiac Trans Am start up and that is an incredible sound. Also a person I know has a very old (1970's era) Ford Capri with a V8. It happens to pick someone up from my school and you can hear waay before you can see it which is quite funny..
ive heard AU windsors (my dad owns one) XR6T's and BAXR8's and can safely say the BA 8 sound the best. the BOSS engine retains the bellowing at idle the windsor has but doesnt get raspy higher in the rev range like the buick V6 in the commodore does.....

There are a few books, but most are in French :)
http://www.editions-palmier.fr/Librairie/Tri-par-marques/Marques-francaises/Matra/Matra-pages/matra-course.htm
There is a lot of on-line info too.
Here are a couple of good sites to start with....
http://www.matrasport.dk/ - find my car in here, Lennart and I collaborated in getting the first Matra picture site on-line.
http://www.carjoy.nl - Dutch dealer, click on history.
And if you want to spend hours browing, this is the most complete Matra links list ....

Thank you
I haven't had a chance to hear the Boss engine in the BA XR8 yet, but i'm looking forward to it. I've just remembered I once heard a BMW M-Roadster engine and that sounded incredibly loud and sexy.
For an excellent noise, find yourself an Austin-Healey 3000 and don't change gear until you go past 5000 rpm. Now that is one entoxicating experience.
Anything with a Mopar Street Hemi
My choice, too. Any '66-'71 Mopar Hemi... especially with open headers!
Again, Chevy V8's. As much as I love my Fords, Chevy's totally own the crap out of Ford on the exhaust note competition. Haven't heard enough Mopars to compare, so who knows I may end up liking those even more.
Can't beat an HJ Monaro with Twin 3" pipes:)
TVR Tuscan
I guess I havent heard the best sound yet, but an inline 5 (audi one) sounds amazingly cool. Raw and sporty sound. It's one of the main reasons I dont want to lose my car
Maserati GranTurismo is definitely the best sounding car in the world!:D
That's a fairly definitive statement from such a username.
Their are too many that would qualify :( Heres a few (yeah technically engines but, what ever)

^^^ Three very nice selections. A few more:
Ligier-Matra V12 (great look at how much Monza has changed, too!)

^Those are some kickass choices as well. :D
I want to reivindicate a pair of cars from the maker that no one seems to care about any more.
First the classic. The loudest thing I've ever heard on a rally stage.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFq3Qfvci4Q"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFq3Qfvci4Q[/ame]
Then the unexepcted.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8kuyiTiLsc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8kuyiTiLsc[/ame]
The 1.3 Lancia is one of the sweetest engines ever built. Good choice.
It's the 1.6 apparently.
It's actually the car Munari used to win the 1972 Montecarlo Rally, apparently.
Perhaps these two are not the BEST sounds ever, but they certainly work for me...
