That's an undeniable point, especially with the mid engined Ferraris. I think the fron engined V12 cars are right now still safe from that new trend, the 599 had a lot of aerodynamic influences, but I still think it's gorgeous in the flesh, albeit it isn't as simple and fluid at a first glance as the 550 was.
Modern Ferraris, and mid engined in particular, are moving towards a new kind of personality that you summarized in this fast/fast approach as opposed to the older fast/beautiful, which I don't like too, but it is at least showing a path which is perhaps more clearly visible now than back in 2004 when the F430 was unveiled.
After all this is what people seem to want right now, an perhaps it could take a while to teach them to a new body language which isn't made only of wings, vents and appliance stuff.
It's also a common disease in brands who made their heritage out of competition and racing approach to road going cars. that said, even racing cars were better looking when aerodynamics was still an unknown entity.
In other words, efficiency spoils everything. And for instance the CLS and E-class Mercs are a very clear example.
By the way, this is why I like 612 Scaglietti. It's not as beautiful as Ferrari used to be, especially its predecessor was timelessly elegant, but it's old Ferrari. Everything mechanical is meant to perform, but that's it, the interior and exterior are crafted and desgined not engineered and computerised.
The 599 sort of sits in the middle. It's not as geeky as the Dinos but not as gentlemanly as the big Fezza.

New pics are available, can someone please kindly post them up? Ferrari is very stingy with their press access... :-(

Indeed, I just saw low-res versions and there are some awesome wallpaper material in the new batch.

There seems to be a lot of hate for this car (aesthetically speaking).
But to be honest I find it somewhat appealing. It's definitely a grower.
Anyways, enjoy some new pics.

If McLaren is back, I must comeback! :D
Let me take part of this discussion to say that agains all odds, Ferrari managed to pull out to 2 models that I find to be design masterpieces: the 599 and the 458. For me the 360 was absolutely clumsy and not at all elegant. Same can't be said about this one. Function and form seem to be cleverly matched. The car has dramatic lines but it's in no way overdesigned. I think it's one of the most polished designs Ferrari made over the last 20 years. I'm pretty sure it will have a bigger place in history books than the two predecessors.
Happy Xmas!

Haha, hell yeah McReis :D
I too agree that this car is much more exciting than its predecessors.
Edit: Happy Xmas, as well.

I'll pass that motion too guys, I think this design wise at any rate (not sure of performance?)
this is definately a step away from the "japanese" styled F430.
I like it alot. Great proportions.

My concern is about the detailing, but otherwise agree.
