Taurus vs 929 in race
my friend owns a mazda and said he could beat me in a race, i myself drive a ford taurus, i was wondering if anybody could give me an opinion or a first hand experience to settle this without any racing, yet...
heres the specs
Mine:
2002 Ford Taurus
Engine: 3.0L V6
HP: 155
Drive: FWD
His:
1994 Mazda 929
Engine: 3.0L V6
HP: 193
Drive: RWD
i know he has more horsepower but factor in handling and EVERYTHING you can think of, i really think i could beat him
and this is for a drag and lap
and if the Mazda had a 4.0 V6 would that change much?

Depends on the weights and the gearing of the cars. From the numbers you posted, and the fact that his car is RWD makes me think you stand little chance in 'winning', but I consider street racing stupid if that's your plan.
-
no, the "yet" part was a joke, but im just wondering, im not stupid enough to street race, i want my license
-
His car is more powerful, RWD and possibly lighter too as older cars often are. I would say he has the advantage as well from what you've posted. I rode in a friend's taurus once and it tilted and leaned and squated all over the place so I would bet it's not a very good handling car. However i have no experience of mazda 929's.
Don't street race, and if i were you I would not ever race in a taurus.

It all depends on how many more stickers you have then him.
I would suggest this as it adds about 500hp.

I'll be damned if a Taurus beats anything.
-
torque have a say in things
-
Taurus
torque: 185ft-lbs
max torque: 3950rpm
Mazda
torque: 200ft-lbs
max torque: 3500rpm
-
thanks for the input, and i was never really gonna race, its a "just wondering" thing.
-
His Mazda is superior in every department, so you stand little to no chance of winning. Plus it's a Taurus :D
-
add NAWZ and victory shall be acheived easily
-
haha, wanna buy, ship, install, fill, and test it for me?
-
i think it will be alot closer than evreyone thinks due to the age difference of the vehicles and also the gearing of each. i used to drive a 96 taurus with the 3.0 mazda v6 in it and went suprisingly well but i guess you will never know until both cars are side by side at the strip if you can can hack the embarrasment.

Worrying about which car, both usually driven by old, retired people is faster, wow. Go on the highway and race, it's not like they can go fast anyways.
