First picture, winner of 1st Japan GP
The history of Japan’s modern motor sports began with the 1st Japan GP Race (1963, Suzuka) and this machine was the winner of the B-II race. The driver was G. Tahara, who later became Sports Car Club of Nissan Chairman. Although the car was based on the Datsun 310 chassis (first-generation Bluebird) with the Cedric’s engine, its fame spread as an authentic sports car.

So officially is this in the Z car lineup or a Z cousin or does this share nothing but the name?
So officially is this in the Z car lineup or a Z cousin or does this share nothing but the name?
It was officially named Fairlady Z in Japan, in keeping with the home market Fairlady line of sportscars.
For the US market it got the numeric treatment Datsun had used for the 1600 and 2000 Roadsters.

Not direct part of the Z family, more like a somewhat related ancestor.
