In regards to the earlier motorcycle/automotive equivalence argument, I am not sure each company has an equivalent, but I think of Ducati as exotic, expensive, and very tied to it's roots - the demodromic valves, v-twin, trellis frame - they are very traditional. I think in this way, they are similar to Porsche and the 911 - the 911 uses an inherently compromised platform, a flat-6 when V8s and larger are in vogue, and up until relatively recently, an aircooled engine.
Would you agree with this assessment?

As I said I always thought Ducati was the equivalent of Ferrari, but I don't know much about the two-wheeled world.
-
A top of the line 1198R, yeah, I could see why, but Ducati sells a whole lot more than that. They basically rely on the Monster range to survive, which for a long time were just parts bin specials. The base model 696 is roughly the same price as a Triumph Street Triple, BMW F800R, Aprilia Shiver, Kwaka Z750. The trellis frame isn't long for this world on the sportsbikes either, they're very likely to be moving to a "frameless" design soon.
Like I said, MV Agusta are widely regarded to be the two-wheeled Ferrari.

Gotta LOVE the commentary.
We're currently building a Pat Moss replica A40 Farina for the Monte and trying to get permission for a 50th anniversary Glasgow start for the classic event.
SO been trying to get as much media on the car as we can.
HAD to share this with you, for all true petrol heads :)
WHat the Monet Carlo rally USED to be about. LONG stages. If you think you'll need a mechanic then he/she sits in the back beside you and if you totally wipe out the side of your Mini a bit of gaffer tape and on your way :)
But in usual "British" media style you'll hear at the end them talk about how BMC customers benefit as they drive the roads of ENGLAND ...... p*ss off !!!!!!!
WARNING ! The site has TONS of old car films and you WILL spend most of your free time there ... You have been warned, so don't blame me :)
EDIT: ( one hour later ) .... look what I found in the search. Some great Matra shots from Le Mans ... CURSES no sounds :( :( ... http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=73320
