I'm applying to MIT just for shits and giggles. :D Wish me luck. :p
G'luck ;)
Yes of course. :D
I'm not applying to Irvine, Riverside, or Merced. Merced is pretty f*cking pathetic, I'd become an alchoholic there;). And the other two are too close without being anything special.
Yeah, I'm probably going to toss Merced on as the last-ditch attempt school. :D
UCSF is the closest (only a half-mile away!) but it's graduate and dentist/doctor school, so I can't even dream of applying there. :(

UCSF you can't go to as a freshman, but you could transfer in sophomore year if you wanted.
The way I understand it from the lady at UCSB and also UCLA when I toured them was that you apply to the UC system, and then they tell you which schools you're accepted to.
You apply to the UCs and you tell them all the UCs that you're applying to, and it's just one big thing. Then each college evaluates your application etc...
In the debate McCain said he was for getting rid of teacher accreditation, because it is too bureaucratic. Oh, dear.
Obama says $4,000 to college for students who do some mandatory community service. So there's $2,000,000 left for us to pay.
EDIT: Obama said $4,000 per year, not only once.

the acreditation thing is absolutely insane...
on the college front, I applaud the 4k for some sort of service. I went through college on my own, doing ROTC alongside the other kids that had full scholarships. I wish I could have had a credit that I could have used towards school. I still, 4 years out of school, have over 20k in loans I am repaying. but such is the cost of private schools.
Guys seriously, no politics in here.
Sorry, I just created a thread for it now. ;)

$4,000 a year is definitely nice, it can easily pay for a semester at a lot of colleges, or at least make a nice contribution.

The UCs, the cheapest colleges I'm applying to AFAIK, are about $15,000 a year. So the govt. paying a third of that is quite nice, but that is still a lot of money, $44,000, that the student will need to pay after 4 years.
EDIT: 15k sounds wrong, let me check.

Should be about $6,000 tuition if I remember correctly.

Whoops, completly forgot to check. :)
Is the $6K for in-staters or out-of-staters?

More like in-staters. I did the adding and it came up to around 30K for 4 years.
Hmm...WRX STI or College education? :D

In state. But that's only either the first or first and second year, I think out of state for UCs is like $18-22,000? Then it drops way down the second-fourth or third-fourth years.
