my dad had a lincoln mk iv, which i think was on the same platform. you coudl be cruising at 100 mph and never realize you were doing over 30.
its not a sports car, but it has enough power you could probably melt the rear tires. enjoy.
A friend of mine has a car like this (only black or dark blue, not sure). But his is not moblie right now, nor has it been for the last few years. Its been sitting in his garage for along time (Such a shame). Not in this good of shape either. The car was his grandmother's, but he wants to get it going so he can drive it. I've been inside of it, and aside from the musty, moldy smell, it looks pretty nice inside. I'd love to drive in it some day.
Congrats on the purchase of a great car. Have fun!
Duuuude, looks pretty cool, very retro.
Drop a 4.2Bi-Turbo in and you'd have the best car EV4R!!!!!
Have fun with it!!:)
are you joking? maybe its just me, but i wouldnt smoke that thing until its dying day
I hope it is just you, cars are for driving.
Nice buy! Currently looking for a classic myself if the motorcycle idea doesn't pan out...
That looks very good indeed. Enjoy it, Tim. :)
By the way, what kind of power does it have?
Wikipedia quotes 158 horsepower for the 400, but it feels like more. It's definitely got some torque helping out, too.

I haven't tried it at triple digits yet, but at 70 it feels like it could keep cruising at that speed all day.
As promised, more pictures. The "74 XR7" plates are the previous owner's; it'll have different ones when I penetrate the beauracracy and get it properly registered in my name.
And more :)
Last ones.
i see you customized the plates already

If only reading was obligatory before posting...
In honor of this, my 1000th post, I've decided to post a few more pictures of my Cougar, which has been mine for just over a year now.
The first five pictures were taken on December 1, 2007, when I drove out to Beaver Creek Reservoir outside Charlottesville around sunset.
Coincidentally, December 1, 2007, was also the date when I experienced my first major failure on the Cougar. The brakes went out, although mainly this meant I just had to plan my stops farther in advance than normal. Turns out the front brake hoses were "rotton" to quote my service receipt, and the master cylinder was leaking.
Other than that and a few minor flaws, she's been running great. I've discovered she doesn't like sitting still for more than a week, and she doesn't like cold weather. I do love being able to pull up to either side of the gas pump because the fuel filler is located behind the badge in the center of the taillights, and I love looking out over that long hood when I'm driving. They really don't make 'em that way anymore.
