Why not do Impala and Commodore on the same (preferably RWD) platform? Too much sense?

For some reason, either Americans really do prefer front wheel drive (maybe it's the folks in the snowbelt?) or else car companies revel in putting dumbed-down crap in our hands. The Land of Oz makes better American cars than Americans do.
I basically like this car, but the interior strikes me as being a bit...i don't know...busy maybe? First impression is a bit overwhelming, but after looking at it for a second it's quite nice.
Actually the idea was indeed to use the Commodore as a base, but then GM decided they could make more money if they pitched the Commodore-based SS as a sort of a rival for the Jaguar XF and Maserati Ghibli and went for a Saab 9-5 in drag for their full-size mainstream offering.
Which, seeing the enormous success the G8 had, kind of makes sense.
In any case, I think this looks quite good. And much better than the XTS.
I think this car looks awesome.
I hate it, I think it's hideous. There's something about that rear end that's so very wrong.

I think the front is okay, but the rear is very Korean.

I think it looks like a Korean car from the rear. I don't remember which one though.
I'm thinking Hyundai Sonata or Kia Optima.
You're indeed thinking of the Optima.
Saw it in person at the Harrisburg Auto Show, very very good looking.
