Lawsuit against NASCAR?
Has anyone heard about this? Apparently NASCAR's being sued by some track owner who's throwing a temper tantrum because his track isn't being used by NASCAR. I hope NASCAR fights this, it seems like it could really alter the way the tracks are chosen if they let a lawyer make the decision for them like this. A friend of mine was at the race a few weeks back and told me she was asked to sign a petition about it, which is how I heard of it--they have a website as well.
What are people's thoughts on this? Anyone heard about it?

Not big NASCAR fans I take it? :p
No worries. I just got myself interested a bit lately, and heard about this, has me a little irritated. I mean, imagine (if you're a NASCAR fan, otherwise this won't mean much to you) some fancy lawyers telling NASCAR "sorry, no more Talladega, we have this shiny new track instead". It's like someone suing the Oscars to have them held in Houston instead of LA.

Lol i dont know if you'll get much support here...but come on guys, what if they did this to le mans?

They wouldn't. Le Mans brings way too much tourism and money to La Sarthe.

In fact it's worse, they are planning on ending racing at Monza for noise concerns I think...

Everything except for F1
LMS round got moved to Jarama, and FIA GT round was moved to Adria.

they would never cancel Talladega, there is always a huge crash there every year, so canceling it will create huge amounts of pissed off people who like crashes (like me) as long as nobody dies

I think there is another side to this, maybe there was a prior agreement to have it at the track or something. maybe not, but only one side is being represented here, i cant really make an opinion w/o the facts.

For what, being boring and the official sponsor of alcoholic rednecks everywhere?
I don't care
Then why post this?

just cause NASCAR ain't using the guy's track. what gives him the right to sue??

His beer.

but perhaps they had a contract and the nascar orginisation broke it. In that case they have a good point...
-
If there was an existing contract then yes theyve got a strong point.
However if its something petty they shouldnt have a leg to stand on. After seeing the latest US GP lawsuit get thrown out this shouldnt have too many issues if its as straight forward as it seems

Found another website with some more information on this. My apologies to the F1 fans--as someone said, imagine if they were doing it to Le Mans!
