Saw one of these at an auction once. Made me a bit nauseous.
What's that attachment on the side for?
Looks like a roof folding mechanism to me.

The roof flips back to lay flat on the rear deck. The doors swing out on pantographs and slide perpendicular to the body like a cargo van, opening the entire side of the car. When both top and doors are open the cockpit is completely exposed. Not kidding... these are seriously ugly in person. Mohs built a slightly less hideous "opera coupe" that had no side doors at all, the roof lifted at the rear and steps dropped down to enter. Safety first circa 1968. :rolleyes:
It is hard to even find photos of this car. The ones that come up on google turn out to have dead links.
