Legends of Le Mans
Le Mans panel picks its legendary cars - Grapevine - Le Mans - AUTOSPORT.com
I can't find the original list, apparently 3 cars were picked by ACO in each decade and then the fans and panelists voted to decide the final winner....
Apparently R8 was not even in ACO's list, although I guess they really wanted the car to not feature....despite its 5 Le Mans wins in 6 years....

Same old, same old i'm betting. Bentley 3 Litre, Ford GT40, Porsche 917... i really think it's time for more obscure cars to be recognized. While it's still really cool that the famous cars have been restored it would be even cooler to get some recognition to some pretty rare machines.

Prob was they were only offering few per decade.
So the Matra 3 in a row that surely merits the 670 series and it's V12 as "Legendary" didn't really stand much of a chance with fanboys represented by the main "marques" :( and French vote split with the Alpine :(

Hard one, they've have been lambasted if Audi were listed TWICE for the same decade :)
and hell yeah, it's a FRENCH race, of course they can put the Peugeot forward !!!

Same here, only got 3 years worth to go by so the list is inevitably contrived for the 10s :)
I give the Nissan legend status as it was against all odds and personally I didn't see it making it round Porsche curves flat out :)

It's the new ultra-modern prototype! ;)
It's so new they haven't realsed it yet.
But if they wint they have until 2009 to unveil it!
Wait...
Or something.

Mugen, an Audi fan will say that and want both in and then chose. A French fan will want the Peugeot for it's achievement. IT's all subjective and the voting would have gone nowhere if they just said any car. Had to cut it down somehow and yeah, cobra, I hadn't noticed no Talbot. Which is even MORE crazy. Audi won when few others were investing at the same level. GOing back 50 years many cars were competing with similar investment and support. It's easy to win with money :) But it wont make a legend :)
-
... That depends on your definition of legend.
Subjective awards are fun food for thought, but not to be taken seriously in my eyes.

I dunno if thats fair. Audi did no more work in the car after 2002. Ran with heavier weight, less downforce and power and still won 2 more times....The car won almost 80% of the races it entered(ALMS, ELMS included, where there are actually competition in sprint races) and had ZERO engine failure from 2000 to 2006 when it retired.....
People can talk all they want about Audi beat no one in those years, they didn't exactly sit around....and they moved the goal post considerably for what needs to be done to win Le Mans....

Well I doubt some blokes in nothern Italy could match the resources of a North American multinational corporation, yet that doesn't make the GT40 less of a legend, does it?
-
:cough: it took a small team in England to make the GT40 a success :)
and success outside of La Sarthe I didn't even think was up for consideration as it's a Club L'Ouest anniversary and award :)
and yes it's a bit of fun ... and there's no more fun than winding up a fan :) :)
