Doesn't look like a Jaguar to me and not a fan of the interior.

However, the R flavour actually is a really good look on this car.

It doesn't look like a Jaguar, but what looked like a Jaguar did not sell, and this will drive and be like a Jaguar.

Jaguar has picked up huge of late, as has Land Rover with that influx of sweet sweet rupees from Tata. This is foreign ownership done well.

Plus, I still see X308s, X350s and X358s on the road. I fairly often even see the fun ones like the R, Vanden Plas, Sovereign, and Super 8. Those are awesome.

I'll agree with that, Tata seems to generally be a well-managed company and I think does understand the value in the Jaguar brand.

As long as they let the Jag people does their job, keep an oversight on money and not do too much on the micromanagement, the ownership shouldn't be an issue....

Originally, I thought that the XJ Supersport would be the equivalent of the "Super V8" of old, so the appearance of the XJR is interesting, especially since it appears it will now become the flagship of the XJ line.

With that said, my thoughts would be whether Jaguar leaves the Supersport be, or if it will receive an update down the road and be re-positioned as the flagship. My prediction is that they may update it to be the top dog, as I assume the XJR will be sold as a SWB only.

As for the car itself, it appears to be tastefully done with the new wheels, blacked out mesh grille, and red Jaguar badges.

The interior in modern Jags is superb. We have one and while it may not be quite as clinically well put together as say an Audi's, it's a much nicer place to be, much more modern and warm with nice touches like the blue ambient lighting.

X308 XJR with the Minilite-like wheels is possible the best Jag saloon ever made.

Regarding the styling it's not that looking like a Jaguar didn't sell it is that they left the shape degrade and bastardise (X-Type? come on) so much that by the time previous generation was introduced, it was too late.

It's good that they have evolved, but the XF looks mainstream and the XJ is awkward. I would have preferred to evolve the classic, three box long and low Jaguar proportions into the 21st century.

Or just put the Bertone B99 into production.

In the modern era, I would agree. Too bad they were, from what I've heard, made at approximately the exact nadir of Jaguar quality.

X308's are great looking cars. I can speak to their quality though...not necessarily Jag's fault as they outsourced the trans for the car, but my Pa rented one for the hell of it when we visited his family in Texas. The car had about 600 miles on it when we picked it up. By the time we returned it 4 days later, the first two gears didn't even work anymore.

He tossed the guys at the counter the keys and said, "I think there's something wrong with your car."

Too bad, it was a nice driver, not without some other faults though.
