    Gimme the points!

Also I guess it is a 6.3 as an homage to the 300 SEL 6.3 from the 60's. But that's precisely the point. If you were going to build a new V8 why not make it displace 6.3 litre in the first place?
Actually, I was thinking Fiddler on the Roof.

But I don't remember that episode of Top Gear.

Maybe there's an engineering reason behind it?

When you're building a purpose built engine, displacement is only a result, not a input like for a small diesel for the new Golf.
You want specifics power, torque, temperatures, stiffness, and you're looking for something around a certain displacement
Also sharing components with other engines, or even their designs, could explain it.

Also the Merc numbers have often nothing to do with the displacement. Have a look through the engines of C- or E-Class to get my point.

And if you see the displacement of the new "63 AMG" (presented with the S-Class "Red Pig" conceptcar in March), you might understand what I mean. The numbers just tell you if it is a bigger or smaller version of the Merc you see, nothing more or less.

Yes, but they have 6.3 badges in the front wings.

Nevermind, it still sounds like the god of thunder.

To be released in 2010 as a 2011 MY, the SLS will feature a 563 hp / 470 lb.-ft. version of the 6.2L V8 dubbed M159 and will feature dry sump lubrication. This will be mated to a 7 speed dual clutch transaxle which will yield a weight distribution of 48:52.

The car will cost about 250K and also be gulwingy - it's supposedly gonna feature a ew aluminum construction technique to lower weight. The floorpan and body is made out of forged, cast, and sheet aluminum which sounds cool to me (but it's no carbon fibre).

    Enjoy the spyshots below.

    EDIT: Source with more info.
