    "1967" Dodge Viper Concept

This rather attractive (barring the headlights) car is a rendering of what a Viper may have looked like in 1967. It's done by Rafael Reston and I got these pics (more here) care of Autoblog.

Pretty cool I gotta say, thought I see in my eyes some design flaws. The overall shape though is gorgeous and the hood vents and engine - excellent is with the rear.

Looks particularly nice in silver, dark red, and black I think.

This is what the Viper would've looked like in the 60's.

    Nice work nevertheless.

These are computer drawn pictures right?

Looks pretty cool. The Shelby Daytona Coupe thingy that won Le Mans is the real predecessor, no?

Isn't that a bit too small to be a Viper Ferrer?

Well, probably. But on both cars a certain man called Carroll was involved.

Why not get a Corvette instead of something that raped the Corvette for it's design base.

Interesting indeed. Makes me wonder what engine/drivetrain options Chrysler could have implemented then.

the concept is interesting, but has entirely too much of an italian look. a bit incongruous to 1967 america. it also has the problem that it doesnt actually look like a dodge.

Agreed with Dino and cmcpokey. It does have an interesting look, but to me, it looks like bits and pieces of recycled cars. As Dino said, it has similar cues from the corvette and other cars.

On another note, why make a concept of what the car would look like in the 60's? What is it with designers lately and resurrecting the classics from the 60's etc. I know it was a pretty good time then (Don't know for myself, since I wasn't alive.) It reminds me of movies, and how most new movies are just remakes etc. From old movies/ shows. Seems like the American car industry is going the way of the entertainment industry! (Not this car since it is a concept and by a third party designer. But with the mustang, charger etc. All styled from the classics.)

But the car, like cmc said, does not really look like a dodge. It looks to European for an American manufacturer from the 60's.

As for that Shelby Cobra.. I'll take that any day, thank you very much Mr. Carroll Shelby

    440? 340? Hemi!?

It's an interesting idea. The styling is a little weird, it has some truly odd detail but interesting never-the-less.

    I'll have a C3 with the ZL-1 427 kthxbai.

    Don't forget the 383!

I like your choice of Corvette. Good look finding one of the two of them - and paying for it. I have no idea where those cars are, does anyone know?

EDIT: I'd probably go with hellcat's 'vette choice but there's something about a Hemi in this fake car I would enjoy greatly.

    Too stylish to be American

Were there any V10s back then? Maybe a tank engine.

Maybe not a V10 but the 426 hemi had been around for quite a while at that point and was a monster.

Ferrer wins, BTW. Carrol, the name, the fact that they said it was the successor...

Me too because all the designer lists is the 440 Magnum out of the Challenger R/T (Which didn't debut until '70 but whatever). I'd like to see a Hemi, and a 340 small-block with the six barrel option.
