Manufacturers are now responsible for the ultimate disposal of all products they make - chekc your new PC boxes Karrmann and you'll see they give you contacts for disposal

GM woudl be required to offer safe disposal services for the lifetime of the cars.
Given the nasty internals of high-capacity batteries this would have HUGE legal ramifications and future costs that woudl severely impact future profits.

Also, the issue of an injury whilst servicing it in the future is another minefield !!

So it will NEVER happen unless they can get a water-tight legal document releasing them from those legal responsibilities. Given the penchant for litigation in the US I don't think they'd have a hope in hell of getting a contract that would be water-tight

Maintenance would be but, as others have said, GM would still responsible for producing replacement parts. And, as they consider it experimental technology, they would be ultimately liable for something they aren't comfortable selling. It wouldn't work. One would catch fire and they'd sue GM over something they didn't want to sell in the first place. Companies are not obligated to put their own business stability in jeopardy for 10-year-old experimental technology, regardless of how cool you think they are.

    And you wouldn't buy one. You're 12.

I did like the EV1, but the solely electric car is a flawed concept.

You have limited charge capacity, and it takes forever to charge the Heavy, dangerous and space-consuming batteries.

You merely pass the environmental buck onto the powerstations, already pumping out heaps of carbon dioxide and the like.

and you lose power when you use the conveniances of the car.

as much as i liked them ,they sucked.....

Baywatch Babe Arrested in EV1 Protest

Hollywood C-lister Alexandra Paul - you remember her from Baywatch, right? - and another woman were arrested on Monday as they protested GM's decision to recycle a batch of about 70 EV1 electric vehicles. The vehicles were being housed at a GM facility near Burbank when Paul and dozens of other protesters massed outside the building, demanding that GM allow private owners to buy the EV1s instead of sending them to a recycling plant near Mesa, Ariz. Paul and a co-driver were arrested for blocking the exit from the facility with their car and were charged with failing to obey a police officer. A former GM employee involved with the EV1 program organized the rally and the group's offer of $1.9 million to purchase the vehicles, the Associated Press says.
