Began enquires in lowering my car...

This is mainly for the aussies, but Ive just begun enquiring about lowering my VT Commodore. Im on a bit of a budget, and its not a performance car, I just wanna sorta make it look a bit swish. Anyway, I seem to be told that the best option (price factor inclusive) is to leave my standard shocks on the car and simply replace the springs and put a basic kit on there to keep the wheels aligned due to the IRS. Now this seems all well and great to me but I went and got a quote from a leading suspension specialist in Adelaide and they quoted me $900-$1000 for this.

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that lowering the VT without replacing the shocks, would be half that price? Just wanted to hear what other Aussies thought of this.... thanks.

A set of shocks might set you back a couple of hundred, but i dont know if they'd actually account for half the price. If it was a custom kit here, not an over the counter thing then the springs you'd assume would account for alot of the price but thats not the case here.

it was going to cost me 3000 dollars just to have KONI shocks and springs for my datto. but i got new shocks, springs, bushes, tie rod ends and a heap more for 1300 last year. Go to 2 other places and get quotes. Best advice is to always get at least 2 quotes but 3 is even better.

Not just low springs but you will also need some heavy duty shocks plus camber kit.
There are alot of holdens VT-VX that wear bad on the inside of wheels a camber kit will help
Here is a pic it's bad but it's the way the wheels sit on lowerd Holden Vt-vx.

I think it's just a shitty IRS that does it, Over the years they have got better, the VXII got control link and they must have fixed it up cause i havent seen any after VXII.
Just the other day i see this VTII calais lowerd so low it was shocking and the wheels were like that to.

I would check out Holdens FE2 suspension as it is designed for the car. Lowering the springs without doing the shockers will not give you very good handling. The camber thing is important though as you will scrub tyres among other things.

Yes, Iam undoubtedly doing the Camber kit, I dont want to screw all my tires to save a couple of hundred bucks. But I dont intend to do the shocks at this stage, as Iam on a budget, plus the car is not hotted up at the moment and I cant see the handling being any worse than stock suspension anyway. I was told by a friend who lowered his VS that standard 2-inch lowered springs are around $100ea ($200 a pair), so going on this first quote I got, that means the camber kit would be costing $500? seems alot to me.

But yes I shall get another quote this weekend somewhere, if there are any Adelaidians on here, Im keen to hear any recommendations, the first place I went to was Pedders.

You only REALLY need the camber kits if its more for the performance than the look, if you look on Herrods site for instance, theyve got a kit for the BA's that without the camber kit lowers it about 20-30mm, but with the camber kit (the same spec on the DJR HP320 coincidently) its only about 15mm.

But isnt it the camber kit that brings the wheels back into line after lowering? Or is it something different?

My sister today didnt get a cmber kit. Instead they bent the struts the guy told her they do the same job but it's heaps cheaper this way. And the wheels have lined up nice now.

Fe2 suspension is good, But if you won't super low then the camber kit is a must really
