I know what your saying but the way the X5 holds its speed up hills or when full of luggage and people is impressive and I think the 318i is gona lack power when under strain.

Is it the earlier 129bhp version or the later 143bhp one?

Even so (if it's a manual) use the pedals and gear lever to keep the pace. 130bhp are plenty if you know how to use them.

He could save up just a bit more money and buy a 320i touring or a 320d.
