there is just winning
agreed, classic cars are from all periods. Whether they are really classics depends on the status they had during their production time. There is a transition period in which a "second hand car" becomes a classic. Many will stay just second hand cars, others will reach the "other" status. It does not really depend on the production period.Originally Posted by DasModell
Personally i think There were classic cars from all these periods although the stand outs come from between 50 and 74 in my opion thats when australia and america were still making what could be passed off as great cars.
I'd say the 60's-70's is the best era for classic cars. Cars entered the modern era during this time. Some of the greatest cars are from the 60's like the Porsche 911, Jaguar E-type, Shelby Cobra, Ford GT-40, Ferrari 250 GTO, I could go on all day.
my preferables are '62 to '67
I think the best cars were made in the 60s and 70s.

I'm mostly a '40's to '50's guy, so I have to split it between those...

Approximately 79% of statistics are made up.
All classic cars are wonderful, but i have a soft spot for the 30s, the 50's, and the 60's.
The 30's are the most "classic" of classic cars. Duesenberg, Cord, Packard....the true American classics come from then.
But i love the wretched excess of the 50's...like the '57 Cadillac ElDorado Brougham...the '58 Lincoln Continental...the '55 Ford Crown Victoria....
And i love Muscle. Cudas, Mustangs, Corvettes, Impalas, GTO's....
I'm undecided. But i'd have to say the 30's. Specifically, the '33 Duesenberg SSJ.
Cougar. Impala. Road Runner. Mustang. Barracuda. Marlin. Cobra. Wildcat. Falcon. Hornet. Tiger. Jaguar. Colt. Bronco. Viper. Bagheera. Gremlin. Stingray. Firebird. Pinto. Thunderbird. Eagle. Skylark.

1962 to 1967
i like it when you call me big mommy.
1960-1967 Is the best for what I like. From the 427 Cobra to the Camaro SS there were so many good cars in those years. Also the 30's were good because they had many cool cars like Zeyphrs.

Miscommunication seems to be a direct result of misplaced, text based sarcasm.
The best era is something entirely personal, yet the best era is anything pre-1973, or pre-oil crisis. Before that date sports car manufacturers in particular didn't have to take fuel consumption into account and could indulge in increasing displacement.
Before 1968, safety wasn't taken into account either, just because the legislator did not impose it. This of course made for pure plastic bumper-less designs.
After 1957 a lot had changed too. That year, the last Mille Miglia took place and the sheer power and speeds reached by thoroughbred road racers was excessive to say the least. (think of the Ferrari 335). In my humble opinion the era in which most unrestricted extravagancies were possible is definitely pre-1958 for racing cars and pre-1968 for road cars. After those dates, many cars can still be considered classics, however, they were devoid of bravado.
Given that my 6 classics range from 1975 to 1990 - I guess this is my great classic era.
I think most people will always like the cars that were out when they were between the ages of 13/14 to 20/23.
For me cars of the 40's and 50's just don't register at all as I have never had any experience of them.
I would exclude from this some of the great classic American car's of the 1957 to 1960 golden era. But even these I have had experience in a way as I still recall the tin friction drive toy versions I had of these. I even scan Ebay now and again to see if any are for sale (tin toy cars I mean).
