Not sure, but seems to me the term came into use after the 917/20 which was a result of French aero testing; the car was somewhat bulbous. The engineers had a sense of humor, painted it pink and marked it up like a butcher's diagram of a pig, calling it The Truffelhunter of Zuffenhausen. Most called it the Pink Pig.
