I know that this is a stupid question but I always wanted to know this. Say someone buys the transmission for a RWD car. How would someone know if it fits in their car? Does it work in any RWD car?Originally Posted by "Clevor" Angel
And another question.
If someone wants to swap out an engine from a car and put in a different engine other than what the car had before how do they know if it will fit other than the drivetrain and the displacement? Is there anything else to consider?
Like what if I wanted to put a Honda S2000 engine in a 79 Monte Carlo hahaha? Or a BMW engine in a Monte Carlo?

Real cars are not FWD.
FWD at it's best -

Well if the gearbox came out of a certain car or is designed for a specific engine it will always fit that engine so yes, it works in any RWD car, even if the tranny wasn't designed for the engine you want, you can get adapter plates n' such to make it fit. The driveline isn't mainly the problem its weather or not things will bolt up properly.Originally Posted by QBridge
Well if you wanted to put a Honda S2000 engine in a Monte Carlo it probably would be possible, its all in how much you want to spend because for something like that you will have to RE-engineer the car. Look at Jay Leno's 66 Toronado, its originally a FWD car but he had it remade with corvette parts into a RWD car. Its all just a matter of MAKING it fit. Otherwise, like putting a 1988 mustang 5 liter v8 into a 66 mustang or a galaxie or hot rod, all you have to do is look at the dimensions of the engine and the engine bay and make room if needed.

Hmm, normally I'd barf at paintjobs like this but my Alpine-bias perhaps makes me think this is not too bad.
NOT a real Le Mans version, but looks a nice replica though price is WAY higher than it would get in the UK.

who has a 250 GT laying around without a transmission?
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.
