I just read the report of 997 Turbo in Ultimatecarpage.com. Manual tran
from 0-100kph in 3.9s,automatic tran in 3.7s,the article said. why is the
manual tran slower than automatic tran? I can believe it.

Look at the type of gearbox, it's probably twin-clutch like VW's DSG system-check the figures for the Golf manual and DSG...

no it´s not a dsg type, that´s still bering develloped (or wiil only be introduced with the gt3 rs!). The tip is faster because is better "integrated" with the electronic AWD and engine management , so it uses the turbos boost better/more effyciently.
Although the optional rear lsd is only available for the manual.

They sure improved on the Tiptronic. The tiptronic always used to be a slow ass box. I couldn't understant that people wanted it.
But it still doesn't beat a good old manual. Driving auto is sooo boring.

Did you mean that the tip 997 turbo is more powerful than manual 997Originally Posted by electrao
turbo coz it use the engine management, so tip can still win manual,
regardless of tip's torque converter?
Thanks a lot for everyone's response!!

no, it means the gearbox can work with the ECU to keep boost up on shiftsOriginally Posted by jackal
Yeah duh. It doesn't have a clutch pedal and a stick.Originally Posted by pterps
A DSG is probably faster and all but it's no fun. And also some people get their panties all wet over a 0.2 second improvement in acceleration which you honestly do not feel.
Yes and the 0.2 sec improvement is debatable. The manual transmission might still be faster when people actually start testing the two. Furthermore (I dont know about an AWD 911 turbo but you can control the wheelspin with a clutch in ways that would be impossible with a automatic or DSG.Originally Posted by Lagonda
You don't get as much wheelspin off the line with an auto, they are used alot in drag racing because they allow for a better launch. Manuals are only good around corners.
That was a nightmare about tip faster than manual.
I think many people have sympathy with my view.
