    Speed still seething over penalty

    Saturday, 08, April, 2006, 16:31 from www.itv-f1.com

Scott Speed says that tension continues to simmer between him and David Coulthard after their Australian argument.
The American rookie was penalised for passing Coulthard under yellow flags in Melbourne, and then fined for swearing at the Scot during the stewards’ meeting about the incident.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Speed alleges that the confrontation could have escalated had he not restrained himself.
"I used some profanity toward David," Speed told journalists at a news conference.
"In return, he started being a bit physical.
“My mom's raised me to not fight, and therefore a situation didn't arise.
“But it was a very intense situation indeed.''
Speed said he was not yet willing to put the incident behind him.
"I would say the gloves are off,'' he said.
"He was very disrespectful toward me.
“The fact we have the same parent company, Red Bull, and that we're part of the same family means that eventually things will cool down.
“As it is right now, there's certainly a lot of tension between us."
Speed also claimed that the stewards took Coulthard’s side in the dispute because of his seniority and greater experience.
“Who's going to believe what I say? I’m the rookie,” said Speed.

    SO two question ...
    1) Could titchy Speed cope with the square-jawed one ?
    2) more seriously, does F1 really want dirt-track driver attitude ?

He passed under the yellow and got upset at a DRIVER for the stewards penalising him 25 seconds ????? and then mouths off about it ..... hmmm can't wait to see the American learn what a glasgae-kiss is like

Having been to Speeds web site he does come over as a kid with big ego who wants to play skateboarding

Well Coulthard more than likely will have reported him for overtaking on the waved yellow.
Then the stewards look at it and decide if true or not based on teh inputs form the marshals at the trackside.
BUT the facts seem to be he DID overtake on the waved yellow, so either - if he was experienced - he should have given way and allowed Coulthard pass him OR he accepts the stewards inquiry and penalty.
Acting all petulant, swearing and monaing abotu Coulthard "getting physical" is makign him out to be a future bigger idiot than Villeneuve

As many people are nowadays, he cannot admit any mistakes without getting upset Seems to become a general tendency IF he is a real man,he admits his mistakes and takes the penalty without whining ...

Supposedely he is a very quick driver.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Besides seeking attention and a bit of free publicity, what exactly does he hope to achieve with this little tantrum? Is he admitting to being wrong? If not, why not? Sounds like he needs a good square jawed 'eadbutt. (Or a Glasgae kiss, as Matra has it )

He won the 2004 European Renault Cup but I don't think he entered any of the British rounds - where the competition is harder .
IN 2005 he did finish a good 4th in GP2 ( Nico Rosberg won it ).

    Well, he should know that;

    a) overtaking under yellow flag conditions is against the rules

    b) swearing at your fellow drivers during an official stewards enquiry will get you into trouble

    c) starting a public feud with what is essentially you team mate, is pretty stupid, and doesn't mark you out as a "team" kind of person. (Something that prospective future employers might be taking note of)

    d) its especially stupid when the person you're picking a fight with is one of F1's most experienced and well liked drivers, and they didn't actually do anything wrong in the first place.

    e) its even more stupid when its you own third ever F1 GP

So, welcome to the world of F1, you now look like a tit for making an school-boy error on track, and a large number of fans will think your a tit for conducting yourself like some sort of Micheal Schumacher, when you aren't even Ralph Schumacher yet.

    Americans, eh!
    Thanks for all the fish

I think he has blown this out of proportion because it would have been his first points in Formula 1.

The behavior is way out of line though.
