Alright I rephrase, the engine block comes from GM, then pretty much everything else is modified by Alfa Romeo, and it isn't shared with any other brand of group Fiat (Fiat, Lancia, Maserati or Ferrari), let alone any other GM brand, unlike the Saab engine which isn't as modified as the Alfa unit (more or less just a tricky turbocharger on the already existing 2.8-litre engine) and it is shared with Opel, at least...Originally Posted by nota

Ok its got (Alfa manufactured?) Actually there's no such thing as 3.2-litre version in GM of this engine, so the Alfa Romeo is unique for the moment...Originally Posted by nota

Not that straight forward as just attaching the turbocharger...Originally Posted by Ferrer
Although the 2.8 is an existing displacement, the version in the Saab is quite unique. It uses a head that's Saab designed, the crankshaft and connecting rods are upgraded forged steel, the piston are unique to this engine and it also uses sodium filled valves for cooler running.
GM's Saab truly is 'global'; the 9-3 2.8T drivetrain is composed of:
Block: Holden design cast in Mexico
Turbo: Mitsubishi (Japan)
Transmission: Aisin (Japan)
Engine Management: Bosch (Germany)
GM also took a top 10 spot in Ward's annual list with Saab's done-up 2.8
