Just curious...when do you shift gears? In normal driving in RPM measure.
1000RPM-2000RPM
2000RPM-3000RPM
3000RPM-4000RPM
4000RPM-5000RPM
5000RPM-6000RPM
6000RPM-7000RPM
7000RPM-8000RPM
8000RPM-9000RPM (how fast do you drive anyway?)
I drive an automatic transmission

I drive a standard 2000 Toyota 4Runner, and it pulls the best just above 3000RPM, so if I want to drive a bit more spirited I shift above that. In general I'm under that, because with the gas prices and everything I usually drive at the lowest RPM possible. Even if I'm doing 70km/h I'll be in fifth gear, because it still pulls gently, but the engine is going nice and slow at the same time.
I go by sound the tacho in my gazelle (84 200sx) has been long dead so id assume not much more then 2000rpm (rember ive got a fire breathing ca20e under the bonnet) also i skip shift 1-3-5 2 and 4 are not really needed unless going around a corner of hill climbing.

between 1000-2000, diesel engine....

Between 2000...5500 rpm, depending on situation.
I drive a Fiat.
Depemnding on what car i drive My driving lesson car has a diesel so i shift between 2000-3000,cos maximum torque lies at about 22-2300. If i drive my dad's C5 i shift somewhere between 3000 and 4000.... it all depends of the situation really. If you wanna accelarate fast you let it rev a bit more, otherwise you shift low to save fuel
Usually between 2 and 3k. I tried shifting at 2,200 RPM as suggested for maximum efficiency and managed to eke out 31 MPG, normally I get 27 when shifting closer to 3,000.

I usually change at about 6500
Cedric - I sound like a chipmunk on there. Some friends of mine were like, "were you going through puberty?" I was like, no I was already 20, I just sound like a girl.
My daily driver is an automatic but in the race car, around 7k.

I could swear this thread's title was, "when do you shit"
3000-4000rpm, though.
About 3000rpm, it's starting to get to expensive to go higher...

2000-3000 in my Civic. I get superb gas mileage this way.
You might as well ask "when do you brake?", "when do you steer?"
Thanks for all the fish
