It ain't very bad at all. You'll be pleasantly surprised. 500 km > 230 km

Exactly. In almost any car the heater uses warm cooling water from the engine. This runs through it, warming the air. When the heater is off, it will still flow there. This means that there is no difference at all, between driving with or without. This also explains why the heater only works when the cooling water is warm.

Yes, read the previous page, it's referring to the bad gas mileage of the Cobalt. It has an ECOTEC engine.

Driving in snow / on ice > fuel economy. It's hard enough to drive on snow/ice in the first place (at least in this country where we don't all habitually switch to winter tyres) without worrying about how much your car's consuming. It's hard enough to actually get the car to go where you point it. Or to point the car where you want to go!

My Corsa also has an Ecotec engine. However it manages 50mpg easily on "normal" British roads.

In the US its just called 'DiRT' since Colin Mcrae isnt a household name. The cover is also different with the impreza instead of the pikes peak cars.

I think their MPG calculations are different according to the size of a gallon in Europe as compared to here, so the figures are a bit higher.

    Or something like that.

Not likely. Scratching through the hills between 10,000 and 15,000rpm > anything you could do in your cheapo Suzuki tin can.
