Turning money into memories.
I must say it: I hate the car just for the "get real" spot on tv.
other than that, it's cheap and honest (it commutes you to work without pretending to be something it isn't). Props to you.
I have a second hand bicycle or my shoes as my daily drive, don't worry about your reputation.

Thanks, and lol
They do. They aren't car enthusiasts, at all.
Exactly why I avoided that look-at-me yellow colour. I took it in a neutral silver colour, and it doesn't look too girly in that colour too.
I shall now explain why I bought that, some of you already know, so those who know skip this long and painful read.
A year and a half or so ago while driving the Slobalt a stupid [insert derogatory terms for girl here] slammed the brakes in front of me for no apparent reasons, and despite slamming the brakes myself the collision could not be avoided. She fled the accident scene without me having the time to write down her license plate number. So I had to claim $4k to my insurances to cover the cheap GM plastic panel repairs.
Insurance quotes went skyhigh.
Meanwhile I have been saving for a car, and phoned the insurances on several occasions to get quotes on interesting second hand cars; E36 328i, A4 1.8T, Merc 190E, even some JDM imports (Skyline, Chaser, etc.) without getting a quote that was nowhere near affordable (I was given a $3.2k/year quote on the 328i!) so I let time goes by while still saving up.
A week ago I went to this Chevy dealer we always went to as far as I can recall for der Slobalt, and I saw this Aveo5 with a huge $8,999 written across it. I asked the dude who sold us almost all of our cars about it, just for fun at first, and he said he would give me $1k off as a fidelity rebate since it would be our 6th car bought there, and that he would also add the full 7-year warranty for free, which is worth around $1.2k. Obviously this is a GREAT deal.
Came back home, phoned the insurances, they gave me a quote of $400/year. lol wut? I discussed with my parents, and they offered to pay half of the monthly payments if they can use it when they need to (and they will never need to). They also said they would buy it back from me in 2 years when my insurances should normally go down.
I would have been stupid to overlook the deal, and I didn't overlook it.
The only letdown, and a huge letdown, is that I had to take it with the slushbox, since neither of them can/like to drive manual. Again, not car enthusiasts.
So overall I will be driving trouble-free for $125/month for the next two years while saving up for a sikkk whip without being slowed down by blowing tons of money on repairs, as I would have had to if I had bought a cheap $500 Corolla, for example.
I think I win.

it was a beautiful 35 seconds.
David says:
that's what she said
eh, well figure by the time your insurance reaches sane levels again you'll have the cash to get something a little special, and probably keep this as a winter car.
also, lesson learned; make your parents drive manual haha.
