Got a new toy. The Panasonic DMC-GF1 with the 20mm 1.7.
Going to use it as a camera that I can take everywhere where my D700 is too big and heavy or downright annoying.
Can't wait for the introduction of the Lumix 14mm pancake! Those two lenses combined with the GF1 will be a great citytrip/party/day out camera.
Oh and it films 720p AVCHD, which is a nice bonus feature.
A week long vaction to a bungalow parc near Eindhoven with the Mrs. next week (extra cheap last minute thing) but it does score you points on Valentine's Day. I put the travel papers in a big bouquet of roses for her.
It accidentally 'cough cough' coincides with a job interview 10 km's over the border there at a certain test track
It's been snowing these past days so I haven't really had te chance to put it to the test. Except for some ridiculous (cat-)shots around the house. I did bring it to a party this weekend, it performed great. No mirror = usable slow shutter speeds. That combined with soms slow-sync fill flash at ISO400 = win.
AF is great, best I've ever seen on a compact. You can have AF point wherever you want in the image. No fixed AF points like an SLR.
I agree that it's still VERY expensive. But IMHO it's worth it. I've been waiting for years for a small digital camera with a usable sensor.
Take a look at the upcoming Olympus E-PL1. It's priced a little more sensible. And it has a built in flash (as opposed to the E-P1 and E-P2).

THE m4/3 lens to get is the Pana 20mm 1.7 though. Which could make the E-PL1 cost as much as the GF1 kit.
This'll probably convince you to get one as a travel camera:
Panasonic Lumix GF1 Field Test — 16 Days in the Himalayas
Like I said, it IS expensive but the difference in image quality between this and the high end small-sensor point and shoots (Canon G11 etc.) is huge.
Here's something explaining why sensor size is so important, for those not in the know.
Life's too short to drive bad cars.
After those shots, I'm trying to justify paying nearly $1000 for a point and shoot
