    Rebuilding has started...

So I started rebuilding my MG BGT motor after concluding that the bearings were knocking. I'm doing it with someone who knows a little better than me how to do it by the way. Once we had it torn down, I realized the bearings were just fine, but the head gasket had blown b/t 1 and 2. Anyway, here's some pics. I'm going with a .060 bore and a street cam. Just a small change, really, shouldn't make a huge performance gain but the cam should improve things and move the redline out a bit.

    Get an aluminum flywheel.
Good luck with the rebuild. I started building a motor for my race car and I got lazy and stopped.

No aluminum flywheel. Would like to have one, but I need to stay within my budget, and thats just one of the things that got axed. The flywheel will be lightened, though, through normal resurfacing.

So, what was giving you your knocking noise? I assume it was top end if it wasn't bearings?

Motor is looking good going back in.

It was a blown head gasket between 2 & 3. As th egas escaped from one cylinder on compression, it moved over to the next one, causing a knocking and a little vibration. It also caused a loss of power, as it was only running off of 2 cylinders. It all seemed like bearings, but once we had the top end off we could see the gasket. It didn't rule out the bearings, so once we had it all taken down, the bearings were fine. So, the "might as well's" caught up to me a little. Like, as in, since we have it out and apart, "might as well" go ahead and rebuild it all. I wanted to wait until next year, but what the hell.

All done, here's the finished product. I'm now able to go 0 - 60 faster than you can say "Holy cow in a few seconds we will reach 60 miles per hour, in fact, it...should...be coming up right about...NOW." HA!

Lord, how does the guy flow that much air into the engine? I can't imagine how it couldn't be over-carbureted with tripple twin sidedraughts.

Great looking job on the GT. Fantastic car. Hope it lasts forever.
    Cheers.
