Excuse if this is a dumb question, but why can't I post or PM? Are there different rankings of members of which I am of the lowest of the low.

You can't PM people until you've got over 10 posts (if I recall correctly) and the same goes for viewing and downloading images.
However, not being able to post is an odd one! I could swear new members could post threads...
