Isn't Walter Rohrl the Porshce guy?
Are BMW still planning the M10 from 2004? looked very similar to a current 3-series up-front.

Yes, he has been twice world rally champion, with Fiat (131 Abarth) and Opel (Ascona 400). He has driven for a number of teams (including Opel, Lancia, Fiat and Porsche), but is most remebred for his drives with Audi. In the early 90's he became a test driver for Porsche a role he has kept since then.

I've only ever heard about him with Audi and Porsche, regularly mentioned in Evo Magazine...

Now that was a good thread to read through

And I'd just like to add something about diesel hot hatches- when d'you think we'll see more of them? The Skoda Fabia vRS is one of my favourite cars. There was also a Seat Ibiza which managed 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, and that was a diesel.

Considering a lot of the clientele of small, fast hatches, surely it would be logical to give them a more forgiving fuel to use? This Corsa will do around 26mpg if you're being average, whereas you can easily see 45mpg+ on the Fabia's trip computer. And let's not forget the possibilities of upgrading that unstressed 130bhp lump... 170bhp... maybe even 200bhp... *giggles evilly*

And Tom- bite me, I have 70lb/ft (aka. 91Nm) of torque, that screws with my steering something rotten

I think you're talking about the Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI. It officially has "only" 160bhp and 330Nm, altough testers have found to be getting 190bhp and 380Nm on the dyno. I think it's even faster than the petrol engined Ibiza Cupra. And it has a 6-speed manual gearbox as opposed to the petrol's five speeder. As I told you the next one will probably be the little Lancia, altough you brits won't be seing it.

And Sam I can't believe you're getting torquesteer with 90Nm. In my aunt's Mk I Scenic 1.6e (which these days I'm driving quite a lot) I only got very heavy understeer when pushing on a icy road and I only make the front wheels spin if I have little grip. It has 137Nm and I have never noticed torquesteer or understeer in normal driving conditions. Anyway you're most probably backing off before you run out of grip because of the boat like ride...

He's just joking around I believe, about something that happened to/with his steering on the 25th.

I'd prefer an Ibiza Cupra TDI over the norm'. No idea why, maybe just more torque so It'd be more fun plus the added economy. But then again, I probably wouldn't bother with the Ibiza as I'm not too keen on it. Last Gen' Leon Cupra R in black I'll have anyday, or a grey or YELLOW new Leon Cupra 2.0TFSI FTW
