I personally would choose a Carlton/Omega GSi 3000 24v- at least if you crash it then you haven't wrecked a legend!
Plus, a bolt-on supercharger kit would work wonders for it...
Or you could modify it/find a 4000cc Irmscher straight six...

I'm sure Waugh-terfall will be able to tell us within the next 12 years...
I have driven a 2003 2.7T, but not the 06-current ones, however my dad was thinking about an '07 4.2, and he said the steering sucked. I was with him when it test drove it, and it was direct, but it stuck where you put it, it was wierd. This steering is amazingly good, very short ration, about 2-3 turns lock to lock really nice thick and somewhat small steering wheel.
EDIT: If you're considering one, go try one. It could have been a dud, or might have had to do with the fact that it was the S-Line model? I would still reccomend one though, just get the steering sorted out, because they really are exceptional cars.

Don't forget, you can get it converted... I wouldn't mind an auto one, if I was going to make some cross-continental trips, but otherwise... not so sure.
