The first two McLaren F1 prototypes were Albert and Edward - two modified Ultima mk3s - which were used to evaluate different parts of the running gear, suspension and other components - these were both crushed.

XP1 crashed in the middle of the desert in Namibia, rolling several times before coming to rest on its roof. Despite the severity of the accident, and the fact that the cabin was full of testing and data recording equipment, the driver emerged largely unscathed. Unfortunately, the car caught fire whilst awaiting recovery and burned out. The debris was returned to England and buried somewhere.

XP2 was the prototype used for crash testing; despite being relatively undamaged by the testing it was later destroyed.

XP3 was the car that Johnathan Palmer took to 230mph at Nardo during testing, and is now owned by Gordan Murray.

XP4 was see on Top Gear - driven by Tiff Needell, and is now in California.

XP5 was the "press car"; I would guess that it is still around somewhere.

XPLM - the LM prototype - is, I think, part of McLaren's own collection residing in the main atrium of the Technology Centre.

I don't know anything about 56XPGT - the GT prototype - but I would think it is about somewhere.

You know the F60 isn't even a confirmed project...

And I believe it is Volkswagen AG that owns the most advanced vehicle research institute in the world.

But Porsche > all at engineering. Right?

They do make more money in engineering than cars.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

Only it hasn't got anything to do with Ferrari...

IIRC, the car is the brainchild of Mauro Forgheri (ex-Ferrari engineer), but nothing to do with Ferrari itself. It has gone suspiciously quiet lately, though.
