These cars are capable of 172mph bone stock (after you remove the limiter). With Z rated tires the limiter is set to 162mph (without the Z rated tires they are set to 120mph). Numerous people on LS1tech have gone past 162 bone stock (using a speed gun).

Agreed. I haven't had mine above 120 yet. I hit 120 like it was nothing in 4th gear. Pulling hard and let off. There's plenty of power left for at least 160mph. BTW, my '98 STS wil hit 155mph without a limiter. That's a 4 door Cadillac with a 4 speed Automatic. Thinking that a 300+hp Camaro with a 6 speed can't hit 160 is a pretty gutsy claim.

Yeah, but it's a 6spd with overdriven gears. Even the blown 500hp VXR (HSV) Monaro has issues pulling at a decent rate in 6th.

80-130mph in a Trans Am. Only mods are exhaust and lid.

A convertible car with subs and amps. Plenty of momentum as well.

Maybe I'll setup my Video camera for you guys. And what's a decent rate? What else does 150+ for this money?? Plus, I can be putting 400 to the ground with only a few mods.

Another Trans Am going to 145. This is how the LS1 climbs. And this TA is about stock.

OK, I know these cars are fast, but I just checked those vids and that is insane. A friend of mine had a similar vintage Camaro SS. I don't know much about these cars but I do know they are fast. I test drove his car one day, just around the hood, and I could tell it had crazy power. I didn't go over 35 mph. I can drive an underpowered car at the limits and do a pretty good job. Give me an muscle car and I'll probably wreck it. Congrats and keep us posted on your accomplishments.

6th gear is not used for acceleration for us, top speed is done in 5th.

I'll take your word on 16x, but 17x is unrealistic. When talking top speed you might as well call it a 5 speed though, because 6th is to tall to produce a higher top speed than 5th.

when it comes to ls1's who makes better parts than slp? they are the ones who basically made the ss.

It might take some more time to get to 17xmph but it will. That's the "top speed." I myself won't take it there on a public road.

Its true that GM let SLP build the SS (although there wasnt really that much they did, unless you optioned for it), but generally when it comes to aftermarket performance there are better companies out there with less expencive products.
    Examples:
    http://www.katechengines.com/katech_inc/
    http://www.stranoparts.com/index.php
    http://www.spohn.net/
    http://www.kookscustomheaders.com/
    http://www.cranecams.com/

Generally all of these companies 1 up on SLP with products they specialize on (like suspension for example with UMI).
Personally the only thing I would buy from SLP would be their intake lid.

Now all you need is a MS4, AFR 205cc heads and a 150 shot and you will have a fun car lol. Nice car, really like the color.

And, as Quiggs would say, lower it

Exactly. The SS was nothing more than an appearance package and a bit of suspension work. I already have the SLP Lid, and I doubt I'll buy anything else from SLP. Plenty of other companies that make the same if not better stuff, and for less money.
