All of them are going to come out pretty expensive. Ever think about a Lexus LS 460? That comes out kinda cheap. You might have issues with the badge though.

Going back on topic, have you made a decision yet?

Actually the HSV Grange would fit better in this comparison, it's the LWB version of the R8/GTS.

If possible compare the mid range engines and not the top end engines. Sorry if i did not mention it before. Thanks.
I don't know where you're at (europe/us/aus?) and what the budget is. It all depends on the budget. The location is important... Is diesel an option ? If so, get a diesel. V8 diesel if the budget allows for it.

The Quattroporte... Well, If I had an unlimited budget I'd go for it. It's beautiful but it's crap. The reliability and maintenace cost IS horrible. And it does 20l/100km average. That figure makes me scratch the QP off the list. But in a world where money was no issue it would be the perfect machine.

    The A8.. It's and Audi, it's boring.

The 7-series. Reliable, probably the lowest fuel consumption. Maintance will be a bit more costly in the long run than Mercedes I think. Questionable looks. Somewhat sporty.

The new S-class. Probably the best. It's still the reference and Mercedes' reliability issues are over.

The XJ. Looks great, but it isn't great. I'd scratch it off the list.

The 6 cylinders on all the cars are plenty fast. Machines like the AMG S-class are pointless.

Yes, but without them the world would be a much duller place.
