    Pagani Sets 'Ring Record

    Pagani sets 'Ring record
Road-legal Zonda F Clubsport knocks four seconds off Carrera GT time 08th November 2007

The Porsche Carrera GT is no longer the fastest production supercar around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. That honour now rests with Italian supercar builder Pagani after Nordschleife expert Marc Basseng drove a road-going Zonda F Clubsport around the challenging 12.9-mile lap in just 7:27.82, eclipsing the Porsche’s unofficial record by almost 4sec.

Although domiciled in Modena, Pagani founder Horacio Pagani is Argentinean by birth, and the Zonda F’s lap record attempt was his way of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Fangio’s greatest race victory, in the 1957 German GP, which, of course, was held on the original Nordschleife.

The car – loaned back to Pagani for the record attempt by a very loyal and trusting customer! – was completely standard, and therefore fully homologated.

evo was granted exclusive access to the record-breaking lap, and
you can read the full story, together with our own unique tribute to Fangio’s legendary race win, in next month’s issue, on sale 14th November.
^all from evo^ heres the video site: 7-28.net i LOVE the sound of that car

pretty exciting, ive always been a huge fan of pagani and its offbeat(to say the least) styling. thoughts?

Isn't a Radical as practical as a Pagani?

probably, but the interior of the pagani looks nicer

EDIT: watching the movie, switch it to around 6:50 and listen to the sound of the engine when they do the driveby. badass.

Not to mention the exterior... the Pagani has a almost functional booth though.

I don't care much about records set on the Nordschleife, but it's a great achievement nonetheless. And agreed about the sound!

Congrats to Pagani. I should have known they would be the best there.

Nice times to come on the race track: Zonda R, SLR 722 GTR, CCGT, and others. All supercars should have a race version.

No, not even remotely. It is usefully cheaper, but it barely qualifies as a road car, and when Radical goes after a Ring-time, they never do it in full road spec. The car is so adjustable that they're able to re-set the ride height for maximum splitter effectiveness. The Radical is a racing car, it's derived from racing, and only mildly altere to be road legal. The Paqgani is a road car, as huge, expensive, impractical raod car, but road-biased none the less.

    Few things:

    First, AWESOME!

Second, I find it interesting that the two road cars that have the best time are both conventional stick shift and not sequential or anything like that.

Finally, there was a little red light in the gauge closest to the passenger side, any idea about that that is? Traction control?

the radical isn't considered a road car in this "competition" because it cannot take on speed bumpers. it is too low. this is the border line from road car and track-ready car, no matter about the plate.
BTW, i knew something about the F Clubsport, and it is "just" a tuning kit for engine, sospensions and brakes, the car is already light enough, and there is no extra-stuff you can pull out of the car. this is not a RS version like for the GT3, just a better package for the track-day fans.
