Adoption time!

So my family decided that, as my dad is about to retire, that we will have time for a new baby. Not quite a baby as old as me, and she will have been born in Germany. As of tomorrow we will be looking for one, so I decided since I am bored at school I will make a thread where I will keep you guys updated in the search, and when the search is over and a choice is made, pictures and whatnot of what we come up with.

Tomorrow my dad and I are going to a local dealership to check out a 1993 Porsche Carrera

She is white, with a decent number of options. I believe he said it was a hardtop, no turbo, two wheel drive, manual, beautiful

Aye, learning how to drive a manual (well, I can do it though heheh) is something I need to do. Not sure if my dad will let me do that with a Porsche till I am in college though, hahaha

I learned manual before I got my first car. Started on my dad's Jeep and polished up on my brothers Hyundai. I love it and I won't go back to an auto.

Good choice. Unfortunately this will be the first manual car my family has gotten in a long time (mom doesn't like having cars she can't drive, the wimp ). So yeah, I'm excited!

Yup. My father found a beater Legacy. Can't wait. Clutch is new though, so it should be fun.

Learning manual is extremely easy if you understand how it works. I learned how in 5th grade and as of now i drive an auto but i still know how to drive manual. I taught my friend who has a 78' beetle and he caught on very quickly too. So if me as a 12 year old can learn then anyone can.... I hope?

Yeah a friend let me learn quickly on his car for 30 minutes or so, so I know how. I just don't think I just work myself into knowing how to do it well with a Porsche Neither does my dad for that matter, lol

you'll be fine, first manual car i owned (that runs) was my 911 and it's not exactly an easy car to drive compared to a (i assume) stock carrera.
just practise!
i still use an automatic car when i'm tired/going into city and cbf'ed shifting, i don't think a manual is the be all and end all for daily driving.

Ok, I am not going to bother editing the first post, but it's a 1997 993 Glacier White.

It has around 47k miles on it, 2 owners (one put ~6k miles on it only), new clutch, resurfaced brakes, a tiny touch up paint-wise done on the hood, new belt, all Porsche standard factory parts. The dealerships asking price for it was $39,000, pristine condition (looked over by the mechanics fully, twice, and a prospective buyer had looked thoroughly at the paint and made sure every part was of the proper number, etc). So, we went for a test drive.

The car does fine in traffic (dad stalled once, but it was alright), took it onto the highway and stayed (somewhat) in the speed limits. The car had a weird shimmy to it in the steering wheel though, and my dad said he heard a weird sound up near his head. It went fine, we went through a right turn onto a road at just under the speed limit (35-40mph ). Car IS in great condition, absolutely love it - so here is the transaction story:

They offered a $500 discount at first, because they still had that previous prospective buyer (long story as why he had not bought yet), but said if we bought it today, they would take it down to $36,000 (about the price various Porschephiles had told us was what we should spend for an immaculate-conditioned car). So here is the deal, based on this:

The car, plus a personalized license plate (dad didn't tell me, but it is to be CdocZ ), taxes, etc = $38,xxx, they fix the sound my dad heard and the shimmy on their bill, and we take it to a 3rd party specialist mechanic before the deal is official, and we can still pull out up till that point even.

Does this sound good to people? Any comments would be awesome.

As for the rest of the day - they let us borrow a 2006 Cayman gun-metal grey )manual)
Seats fit us like an ill-formed, stiff glove with weird fungus making various parts bulge, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a lot of fun taking the previously mentioned right turn at around 50mph without an issue. The Cayman has such insane turn-in abilities, it is incredible!!!!

Sounds like an awesome purchase. Couldn't comment on the price since I'm not sure of the blue book value on 993's, but it sounds like a good deal.

any pics? $36k seems like a pretty good price, but i suppose everything is cheaper in the US (refer to Quigg's mom)
