Well the Challenger has Daimler genes, so it's probably a family thing.

Both Mercedes and Chrysler make fat cars...

    You are on to something.

Its still enormous. It should have been around 4000 lbs without the weight savings

I agree. I was surprised that after a savings of 550 pounds it was still 100 pounds past two tons! I knew these cars were heavy but I did not realize they were this heavy. But if it gets the reviews that the previous black series cars got then it should be a great performer.

As far as looks go I think that it looks very aggressive what with the wide openings in the front and the large wheel arches. I do not like the wheels though; I think that they look flat because of how they are painted. Looks good other than that.

I like it a lot. I wonder what all weighs so much though. That's the only turn-off. The styling is wonderful.

It weighs a bit too much in my book to be considered a hardcore sports car. It also looks weird. Mercedes makes no sense to me. They do the AMG thing, then this Black Series thing and its all a bit much.

But $320,000?! That better be a big performer.
What about 661bhp and 738lb-ft lead you to believe it won’t?

I was just thinking the same thing…

Nothing but its massive steel sub structure and a bunch of interior that could still be stripped out. But then it wouldn’t be a Mercedes.

I agree, except I think the other big turn off is price. Everything else looks good. I kind of wish they could have kept the retractable hard top and not compromised the structural rigidity.

I never said it wouldn't because of that. However, the previous SLs have never exactly been amazing track performers despite their statistics.

You don't buy an SL to go track day'ing. You buy one to leave pounds of rubber on tarmac and look/sound good doing it.

Except you don't look good in it because it looks goofy.

    The old SL however...

If this one had the C-Class headlights...

A common misconception. Maybe if you're a Saudi Prince who got a billion dollars when he was born doesn't care, but anyone who has had to work to make and/or maintain his (or her) fortune would probably not take to kindly to an object they paid half a million dollars for being completely devalued.

By the way, for the record, this car does nothing for me. Now an SL63 Black Series . . .

If God had a Mercedes, it would be a Gullwing.
