Check out the new controled LED backlight
Light behind the pixel is turned off when true black is needed !
Still expensive and not yet in large size ... but they're coming
Tearing is pretty much removed from all the screens as it was a digital artefact, not a screen issue ( well on recent LCDs ).

I'm sitting in front of a $800 LCD computer monitor, never had any problems with true black, I even plugged in a good ol' CRT for comparison and the difference was minimal. I've been playing a lot of action games and never had any problems with ghosting, and there's a window in which the sun shines everyday at its zenith right behind me and I have no problem reading what's on screen (granted it's not quite clear but it's still readable).
LCD's made a lot of progress in the last few years, and are only getting better.
P.S. F*** plasmas.

that's what she said
Even so, you are still losing a lot of contrast range by just turning the pixel off.
True enough. Response times have gone down faster than Fiset's sister on prom night.Tearing is pretty much removed from all the screens as it was a digital artefact, not a screen issue ( well on recent LCDs ).

I think I initially read LED as LCD. My fault.
The new OLED TV's look incredible. Can't wait till their prices come down a lot.
