Not the proper thread exactly, but there is not yet a 2009 F1 Season thread and thisdoes not really warrant a new thread.
Tata Motors will be sponsoring Ferrari in 2009 apparently.
Ferrari - Powered by Tata.
If true, its not too obscure considering the Fiat sponsored Yamaha's in MotoGP.

Why did Ferrari think of that???

So now that we know aero is going to be significantly reduced for 2009, does anyone think drivers are going to take Eau Rouge flat out or will they start playing it a little safe?
Its hard to know, the high speed approach of Eau Rouge means the effects of the slicks will be negligble whilst the different aero will be critical. Theres also 1000rpm less next year and engines that have to last twice as long, so invariably they'll be less powerful. They take it flat out now at 300km/h, but in 2005 they backed off but still went through at 320km/h.

what I meant is that despite the lack of downforce, the slicks would offer an higher coefficient of friction (or simply grip), so the two factors could balance themselves.
possibly they would still take the bends flat out, but at a lower speed.
back in the days the top speed possibilities where much higher, not because the cars were actually faster (even if in some cases it was actually so), but because right now the top speed is significantly reduced by the downforce regulations, the different gearbox ratios, and even a more constant use of power:
being more usable and doseable, a good part of the available power is already used in the bend, so accelerating while exiting the bend generates a different and less brutal acceleration than back in the days.
approaching those Spa's high speed corners in a 962 required a lot of control, the car wasn't capable of putting down all the power as efficiently as right now, so the use of the throttle inside of the bends was very delicate, but while exiting they had to pass say from a 50% throttle to 100% resulting in a devastating different acceleration.
considering the high capabilities of such a car, drivin trough that corner at 100% of throttle would result in an unmanageable acceleration.
right now they just need reduce the throttle a little, downforce and tires help them using way more throttle inside of the bend, I would say up to 90%, so even using 100% of the throttle inside of the bend wouldn't result in a massively different situation.
indeed at the end of the Kemmel straight, the top speed isn't much higher than that inside of Eau Rouge and Radillion, the car is already near to its limit, so the acceleration is quite mitigated.
with older cars, I suppose that managing to drive trough those bends flat out would have resulted in much higer speed.
imo.
