Everyone likes different things in cars. I can see it both ways. I'd love to have a Mazda Miata someday just for the purpose of beating the living tar out of it (and probably will!) but I also can appreciate the technological masterpiece this car is. No, its not a Murcielago, but it also doesn't cost nearly that.

BMW, Lamborghini and Ferrari have all removed launch control features from US spec cars.
Why is Nissan doing it such big news?

Maybe we should get less info about the GTR and more info on the ZR1

1/4 miles are not the best measure of performance for any vehicle.
But they are quantifiable, which I guess is why they are used.
You know, by those who don't know better.

oh hai there!
the only thing I would add to the debate, is that I found a little silly for Nissan for removing that only after having those problems. I guess they should have imagine that before. the main application of other GT-R is a 1/4 "race", give them the launch control, what did they expect?!

I've had enough of people who always talk about their love of the GT-R or their hatred of it. Don't judge any year/model Skyline GT-R unless you have actually driven the corresponding real GT-R. If a person has actually driven one I might actually care about their opinion in relation to that particular model of the Nissan Skyline GT-R.

I don't need to drive a GTR to think it's an ugly over-teched bloated pig.

Yeah people can have plenty opinions about things they haven't personally touched. I never touched John McCain.

Seriously though, whatīs the point of having launch control (or ANY feature in a consumer product) if the thing cannot safely and reliably fullfill its purpose? I would think the whole point of having a feature called "launch control" it is to not have an idiot driver just dump the clutch at 5000 RPM, or revving to the moon in N and then engage 1.
Instead, youīd have the computer take over, micrometrically synchronising the gearbox/clutch assembly while having the driver just give it some revs while controlling the engine down to individual rpm (say at 3304 rpm, which would be the value engineered into the system for a perfect safe launch) no matter what the tach said.
About the BMW example, I read in Bimmer Magazine (M3 buying guide: What You Need To Know!) that the M3 blew engines because of the 8000 rpm redline, which the marketing team were adamant about. The M Roadster never had a problem as the redline was set at 7500 rpm. BMW NA initially blamed it on poor shifting on the part of the drivers but soon SMG M3īs started blowing up engines. You canīt miss shifts with an SMG. So they had to replace engines.

isnt it nice when an ignorant dew screw it up for all?
anyway, manual would be a nice option for this car.
