The replacement for the Bentley Arnage -- all 150 of the Final Series Arnage revealed here at Paris are all expected to be sold by the time the show finishes -- may make its debut at next year's Frankfurt show. The Arnage replacement will be a larger, more expensive car that is not related to the Continental Flying Spur and will be powered by an updated version of the venerable 6.75L turbocharged V-8. Bentley execs had to fight to convince former VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piech, a noted technophile, the massively torquey and charismatic pushrod engine was suitable for the company's new flagship model.

Sexier news hellcat, but I'd prefer if they are gonna stick to 2 vpc OHVs and want more power that they use a supercharger instead of turbos as lag is so classless.

My personal war on throttle lag continues.

I don't like those W thingies as I hear they are not good for heat dissipation and I bet balance is a bit of a problem too. Let's use boxers. vees, and lines for engines for now I think. Or maybe radials...

The V8 in the Brooklands only puts out 800 lb ft of torque

I agree, turbos are too German and tech-savvy.

    That's is a proper straight-X engine.
But I do love the Buick Straight-8

I have not yet decided about roataries but the R26B in the 787-B is ok by me.

EDIT: Also, turbos are Japanese but not so much these days I suppose. I do not want one in my car, but I can understand that do, but who wants one in a Bentley?

It always comes back to the Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C.

It's like that Hitler-forum rule mentioned by Matra.

I shall investigate this Buick straight-8. I dunno if a straight-8 is good as a straight-6 is it may not be as mechanically balanced and makes little practical sense but sure has the uniqueness thing going for it.

With 6.8 litres of british magnifincence, you don't have any sort of lag.

It's not a layout suited to modern cars.

I believe there is always lag, but if they are running low pressure VGTs it may be next to non-existent.

Are they variable geometry turbochargers and what sorta boost does it run does anyone know? Or know where to find out because I sure don't.

It doesn't have VGT turbos. The only current petrol car that has them is the 911 Turbo.

But anyway, at barely 74bhp/litre it's not like it is exactly a stressed engine.

With an engine that red-lines at 4500rpm lag isn't an issue.

Not according to UCP. Where did you get that figure from? Its not like 'only 800' would be a terrible thing.

I don't know if just 774ft-lb will be able to move Buckingham Palace...

Good to hear then, still, I have a thing for natural aspiration however. Red-lining at 4,500 rpm is like something from a different era and I guess it kinda is. I usually like technological progress but in this case I kinda like the tradition going on.

I've just had a thought and am gonna see how this engine sounds - I hope it purrs like a tiger.
