say what you want about our government...

A woman goes to the doctor to figure out why she is having breathing problems...The doctor tells her she is overweight. She says she wants a second opinion...the doctor says, "your ugly".

Great for them but I fail to see why their nationality is relevant or important. As if non-Americans couldn't save themselves..

as if Americans were only natives too...
probably what makes the States so "great" is indeed the fact they are a made of people from basically all around the world.
so even I fail to see a connection to the nationality.

Assuming that "great" in parenthesis is condescending... then yeah, you're right, hundreds of millions of people have chosen to come to our "great" country because its such a awful place.

im not saying non Americans couldn't...however, this is the first time the crew of a hijacked ship has fought back and retaken the ship since somali piracy has been making big news as of late. maybe it is a coincidence that they were Americans...but either way, they are the first ones who took the ship back and they were American

so as someone said earlier America F%CK YEAH!

If this would have happened to a French ship, the US media would not even have cared to report about it.....
Anyway, one crew member has been hijacked but the ship is free. If this will result in a significant ransom to be paid by Maersk, then hijacking crewmembers in stead of the whole might become a trend.

its not just any individual, but the single most important one on the ship.

I'll go ahead and disagree with you there. I've been following this situation for over a year now. NPR has been pretty regular with the updates. True, it doesn't regularly make the cable-news cycle, but they've crawled so far up their own ass they can see their teeth.

    Front page of CNN:
Hostage, 2 pirates killed in French rescue operation - CNN.com

So even though I don't see why the U.S. *should* report as much non-U.S. events as U.S. events, in fact you're dead wrong this time.

Also to those who claim the French are pansies, each time the pirates take hostages, the French go in and kick them in the ass. This guy died this time(1 out of the 4 hostages), but the last two times they took a bunch of pirates for trial.

Well, yes, but would it have got the same attention if there wasn't a concurrent event going on, involving Americans?

From another report from one of the actual crewmen ....
"made their move on the pirates when the U.S. Navy began to arrive"

a 2nd mate from the ship was just on the phone with cnn... the pirates are on the ship's lifeboat with the ship's master. they tried to do an exchange for the, but the pirates didnt hold up their end of the bargain. the whole situation is still progressing though.

on a personal note, when i was stationed in norfolk, i used to see that ship coming in and out pretty regularly. i like the maersk ships, generally top notch crews.
