yeah, it's not bad. it's average.
I think it stopped being the benchmark with the IV gen, the V being too expensive compared to the opponents. I would still consider the Focus as the benchmark, much cheaper, well (essentially, no useless stuff) equipped, reliable.

Let us leave the decision on the conscience of the jury. In my opinion, given the list of applicants, not the worst choice

The Focus may be better in some aspects, but the Golf is still the benchmark.

The Golf has everything, good engines, decent chasis, hi-tech gearboxes, good quality, excellent image and rock solid residuals.

Most of all the Golf still is the car you want.

I'm going to second that idea of better image. Here in the States not many would ever consider the Focus sporty or any of the sort, much less comparable to a Golf. Many people over here think it's just some lame econo-box car without any pizzazz what so ever.

now consider the Focus we have isn't the one you have.
and I wouldn't consider the Golf sporty even when it comes to the GTI.
still Ferrer is right, the Golf is the car everyone wants, even if he doesn't know what it is.

I drive a Golf daily and if it's the benchmark, then all C-segment cars as you call them must be utter garbage because the Golf is junk to drive. The only thing I've driven that was worse than it was a mid/late 90s Taurus wagon. Hell, the old van was more fun to drive than the Golf.

I agree with Leon - the Focus I drove was much better than the Golf - more responsive, tighter suspension, more chuckable, more fun to drive. But maybe I'm looking at it not from the common person's perspective.

You know, I realized this as soon as I made the post but it was too late to do anything about it.
